Historia
Olivia Jones, hard-working and accomplished, has, against the odds, blazed an enviable career path in the finance world. But behind the veneer of her success, she is mourning several devastating losses and betrayals. Untethered from her life in New York City, Olivia moves to a summer home in The Hamptons. Here, Olivia finds a close-knit community of African American elites who escape New York City for the beautiful beaches of the Hamptons. Since the 1930s, very few have known about this Historically Black Beachfront Community, and the residents like it that way.

I wanted to love it as much as the first book, but...
Revisado: 07-22-23
I really loved Summer on the Bluffs, and while I liked parts of this book, it just did not hold my attention, the way the first one did. I enjoy Sunny and her perspectives on the View, so I was disappointed in the flow of this book.
I will try to refrain from giving away the plot, but I did not feel like Olivia and her fiancé ever made a believable couple. That relationship dragged on for far too long!!! I loved the next door neighbor and I wished there would have been more to that storyline!!!
I missed how old Zora was, but the voice given to her by the performer was highly annoying. It was over exaggerated. I was an preschool/elementary teacher who taught 2 1/2 year-olds all the way up to fifth grade for over 20 years. Never heard anyone beyond a toddler speaking in that voice. So I guess if she was a toddler, the voice fit. Based on the level of questions she asked and the observations she made, she was older than a toddler.
Also felt like the voice of the fiancé did not always match his mood. I'm not meaning to be nitpicky, but it just made it really hard to figure out who he was at any given moment.
I loved the storyline that tied the generations together. If you write another book, Sunny, there's definitely good story lines to continue. I loved the direction that Olivia's life was taking.

Too short for one credit
Revisado: 06-05-23
I had read another one of Dana's books and really felt like I got a lot out of it. I thought this one was going to delve more into some of the psychology of way we feel overwhelmed and gift tips on how to tackle things after I purchased it I realized how short it was. I don't feel like I learned anything new from this book. I think Dana is great, but this book missed the mark.

Historia
Our current climate of partisan fury is not new, and in The Soul of America Meacham shows us how what Abraham Lincoln called the “better angels of our nature” have repeatedly won the day. Painting surprising portraits of Lincoln and other presidents, including Ulysses S. Grant, Theodore Roosevelt, and LBJ, and illuminating the courage of influential citizen activists and civil rights pioneers, Meacham brings vividly to life turning points in American history. Each of these dramatic hours have been shaped by the contest to lead the country to look forward rather than back.

Timeline confusion
Revisado: 08-30-22
As much as I love the content of this book, I found the arrangement of the information to be rather confusing at times. I would have to rewind and see if I had missed something because the author jumped from one year to another without proper context. In one paragraph Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was alive in the next paragraph he wasn’t, And then a few minutes later he was alive again. It was just hard to track… Especially in an audiobook.
