too much political propaganda
Revisado: 09-27-16
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
50% of the time was spent on needless political propaganda. there is an interesting story at the heart of the book but it was side tracked by opinion speechifying.
If you’ve listened to books by Daniel Silva before, how does this one compare?
i have read and listened to almost all of Silva's books but as has been observed by others the several most recent books were formulaic and contained filler that was retelling of past volumes. this book is a better and more original story but was sadly burdened by political opinion more suitable to the editorial page or special interest group commercial.
What does George Guidall bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
George Guidall is great. his pace and inflection perfectly matches the story.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
maybe, maybe not
Any additional comments?
overall its okay.

great driveway book
Revisado: 04-28-16
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
one of those stories that make you sit in the driveway after you get home so you can find out what happens next. I loved the dialogue, catchy, real, and often funny. even though its a serious story with edge of seat suspense there are moments where the word painted mind picture makes you smile or laugh out loud.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Sheldon Potter. I know he is the villain but the way his mind works, or doesn't work, is priceless.
Have you listened to any of Cassandra Morris and MacLeod Andrews ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
not sure but I liked them both and particularly Andrews.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
don't leave your seat to go to the bathroom.
Any additional comments?
once I get in the grove with an author I want more. I'm in the grove.

finally i am done
Revisado: 02-26-16
Any additional comments?
if you still like James Lee Burke you will like this. I have read/listened to many of his books and I am finally exhausted by characters who are unbelievably stupid, pig headed, and crude but none the less have unnaturally enormous vocabularies and demonstrate these characteristics in very long winded dialogue. but if you are still a fan this will not disappoint and I gave it 4 stars because I recognize that my lack of tolerance for listening to the morbidly self destructive pull their own pin is personal to me.

Not Grisham but trying hard
Revisado: 12-29-15
A good story that moves along and if you know nothing about the legal system the numerous improbabilities may not bother you. But if you do you will find yourself saying "no way that happens" pretty often. It is Grisham esc in that the characters are caricatures and either likable or hatable but not quite believable. Also there is some Grisham preachifying on social criticism that spills over the top.
All that said its worth the credit.

exhausting prose and endless metaphores
Revisado: 05-28-15
Where does Wayfaring Stranger rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
I like Burke's themes and I have read and listened to many of his books but the pugnacious nature of his characters, they are always angry about something, and the heaviness of the metaphors can be fatiguing. I find myself listening and then after a long set of literary comparisons wondering what the point was.
Have you listened to any of Will Patton’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Patton is always good.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
no

Historia
Throughout these books, Follett has followed the fortunes of five intertwined families - American, German, Russian, English, and Welsh - as they make their way through the twentieth century. Now they come to one of the most tumultuous eras of all: the enormous social, political, and economic turmoil of the 1960s through the 1980s, from civil rights, assassinations, mass political movements and Vietnam to the Berlin Wall, the Cuban Missile Crisis, presidential impeachment, revolution - and rock and roll.

Forrest Gump multiplied
Revisado: 01-22-15
What did you like best about Edge of Eternity? What did you like least?
i liked the history review. it was humerous how a member of this extended family was always present during history makeing events, like Forrest Gump wandering into the picture.
what i found lacking was the sofistication of the story telling. the dialogue was similar to a Hallmark movie with sex. real people just don't talk that way.
If you’ve listened to books by Ken Follett before, how does this one compare?
ok, but no Eye of the Needle or Pillars of the Earth
What about John Lee’s performance did you like?
his was very good with different accents and characters
Was Edge of Eternity worth the listening time?
good question. if you read the first two then you may find this worth the time. if not i would pass.
Any additional comments?
the book was ok. i listened to it and parts were very interesting from the view of having lived through much of this time in history. it was not cleverly written, and the dialogue was very stilted but i still listened and i finished it.
