Historia
For seven seasons, Leslie Knope and the Parks and Recreation gang charmed millions of viewers with their quirky antics and unwavering positivity. The sitcom continues to be a fan-favorite for streaming services today, nearly a decade after its finale. Now for the first time, Jim O’Heir, who played the lovable Jerry (or, well, Garry/Larry/Terry/Barry, depending on the episode), invites listeners back to Pawnee for an exclusive look behind the scenes.

An ok but not amazing time
Revisado: 12-01-24
There's some fun stories about the making of Parks and Rec. There's also stories of Jim O'Heir's life - fair enough. There's an almost unhealthy amount of praise bestowed upon Chris Pratt. It's also weird that the guest sections are voiced by different people trying to sound like Mike Schur and the gang.

Historia
In 1848, a motley crew of Danish sailors sets sail from the small island town of Marstal to fight the Germans. Not all of them return - and those who do will never be the same. Among them is the daredevil Laurids Madsen, who promptly escapes again into the anonymity of the high seas. This is also the story of the port town of Marstal, Denmark, whose inhabitants sailed the world from the mid-19th century to the end of the Second World War and about the women and children they left behind.

Lisbeth Salander—the heart of Larsson’s two previous novels—lies in critical condition, a bullet wound to her head, in the intensive care unit of a Swedish city hospital. She’s fighting for her life in more ways than one: if and when she recovers, she’ll be taken back to Stockholm to stand trial for three murders. With the help of her friend, journalist Mikael Blomkvist, she will not only have to prove her innocence, but also identify and denounce those in authority.

Historia
On January 28, 1742, a ramshackle vessel of patched-together wood and cloth washed up on the coast of Brazil. Inside were thirty emaciated men, barely alive, and they had an extraordinary tale to tell. They were survivors of His Majesty’s Ship the Wager, a British vessel that had left England in 1740 on a secret mission during an imperial war with Spain. While the Wager had been chasing a Spanish treasure-filled galleon known as “the prize of all the oceans,” it had wrecked on a desolate island off the coast of Patagonia.

Historia
Somewhere on the frontier between thought and reality exists the Discworld, a parallel time and place that might sound and smell very much like our own, but which looks completely different. Particularly as it’s carried though space on the back of a giant turtle (sex unknown). It plays by different rules. But then, some things are the same everywhere. The Disc’s very existence is about to be threatened by a strange new blight: the world’s first tourist, upon whose survival rests the peace and prosperity of the land.

I recommend discworld, but not this
Revisado: 05-13-23
I've read a few discworld novels previously and I've enjoyed them. This book is a bit of a fever dream. There is zero plot. Two characters walk around and the world tries to kill them. Every little bit the danger changes, but there is no real reason why anything happens. It's not terribly funny, but there is plenty of world building. Eventually it mercifully ends.
The narrator does a very good job with all of the parts.
Do yourself a favor and go read Postal instead, even if you've already read it. It's better than this.

Historia
The old salt farmers have always said that the violet scent of the Fleur de Sel at harvest time on the salt marshes of the Guerande Peninsula has been known to cause hallucinations. Commissaire Dupin also starts to believe this when he's attacked out of the blue in the salt works. He had actually been looking forward to escaping his endless paperwork and taking a trip to the "white country" between the raging Atlantic Ocean and idyllic rivers.

Historia
1828. Robin Swift, orphaned by cholera in Canton, is brought to London by the mysterious Professor Lovell. There, he trains for years in Latin, Ancient Greek, and Chinese, all in preparation for the day he’ll enroll in Oxford University’s prestigious Royal Institute of Translation—also known as Babel. Babel is the world's center for translation and, more importantly, magic. Silver working—the art of manifesting the meaning lost in translation using enchanted silver bars—has made the British unparalleled in power, as its knowledge serves the Empire’s quest for colonization.

A bit of a mixed bag
Revisado: 03-12-23
First off, the narration is quite good, but the audio mixing is horrible. Don't listen with headphones as it will jump back and forth between ears. The actual story is good if a bit long and redundant at times. It's 20+ hours and after 15 I was desperately looking to the end. I enjoyed the characters and the overall message(s) of the book. Professor Lovell is a wonderful villain/example of British academia. Yet I doubt it will be very memorable in 6 months or so. There's the good and the bad and at the end it maybe evens out.

Historia
The word medieval conjures images of the “Dark Ages”. But the myth of darkness obscures the truth; this was a remarkable period in human history. The Bright Ages recasts the European Middle Ages for what it was, capturing this 1,000-year era in all its complexity and fundamental humanity, bringing to light both its beauty and its horrors. The Bright Ages takes us through 10 centuries and crisscrosses Europe and the Mediterranean, Asia, and Africa, revisiting familiar people and events with new light cast upon them.

The middle ages were complex apparently
Revisado: 05-12-22
The Bright Ages argues that the middle ages weren't dark. Plenty of things happened between the 4th and 16th centuries. People traveled and were aware of different peoples and their cultures. It wasn't all good; it wasn't all bad. It certainly wasn't the anglo dream white supremacists believe it to be. The story of the middle ages can't be told without contributions from those that spoke Latin, Arabic, Turkish, and many other languages. Just like today, the middle ages were complex.
