Historia
Ernest Hemingway said, “All modern American literature comes from one book by Mark Twain called Huckleberry Finn". One hundred years after its author’s death, this classic remains remarkably modern and poignantly relevant. In this new edition, Elijah Wood reads Huck in a youthful voice that may be the closest interpretation to Twain’s original intent. His performance captures the excitement and confusion of adolescence and adventure.

Annoying music
Revisado: 05-09-20
The music is really annoying. I’d rather have silence or just really low volume relative to instruction.

Poor format for an audiobook—pick up a print copy instead
Revisado: 01-19-20
The book is a collection of short thought provoking “bits”— paragraphs or sentences. It’s really not a great format for an audiobook because it is too choppy and it doesn’t allow you to reflect on the wisdom of the words.

Historia
Set in present-day Los Angeles, Junk explores an epic conspiracy, one at work for thousands of years that involves total takeover of the planet Earth by aliens. In the wild, souped-up vision of Les Bohem - the acclaimed, Emmy-winning writer of the Steven Spielberg miniseries, Taken - the world is at the end stage of long-range plot that involves a gigantic genetic-engineering project. The aliens who have invaded us have no planet. No spaceship is coming. Instead, a small advance force comes, breeds, and dies - thus becoming an anomaly in our DNA that can’t be explained.

Very limited appeal
Revisado: 01-16-20
First, this is truly a "course" not a listen. Most chapters have a substantial amount of time devoted to an exercise -- which often involves closing your eyes, so it's not well suited for listening while driving.
As someone relatively familiar with the idea of self-compassion, there wasn't a lot of new ground covered or original thought. It's a re-hash of excellent work by Kristen Neff and Thich Nhat Hanh. Also, the pacing was so SSLLOOWW that listening at 1.5x made the narration seem normal to me.
BUT if the author's example of a difficult life situation resonates with you (she couldn't get on a plane for a long awaited family trip because of her extensive previous international travel but she pulled through and showed resiliency by hanging out at a friend's beach house), then this might just be the perfect simplistic summary for you. But most people will probably just be irritated.

Historia
Imagine living with a fear so visceral each day that simply walking down the street draws terror to one’s core. That’s the best case scenario for a woman on the streets of Juárez, Mexico. Kate del Castillo (La Reina del Sur) delivers a stunning one-woman performance that transports listeners from a New York stage to the treacherous streets of Juárez, Mexico, where thousands of women have been murdered in an ongoing epidemic of violence.

Hard to follow
Revisado: 10-18-19
The story addresses an important and brutal topic: the murders of women and the brutality in Juarez. Reality isn't always pretty. But, the way the story is told and narrated is very confusing. I didn't get much out of the story other than the descriptions of the brutalized victims and snippets of the fear of the women who live there. There were confusing time switches (or maybe location switches? I'm not sure); a narrator who emotes well but I wasn't certain whether or when she spoke as a man or a woman. Also, a lot of Spanish, which I am conversant in, but would be even more confusing for a listener who isn't.

Learned a lot
Revisado: 05-02-19
I have a good familiarity with conflict management and resolution as a trained mediator and thought this really enhanced my knowledge/skill set. I enjoyed learning a little of the history of negotiation/conflict management as I had heard of many of the concepts, but had never thought of the timeline or evolution of the subject. Best of all was that the lecture was very clear and often had enumerated checklists which were easy to follow. I debated about giving the performance only four stars-- after all, it's just a lecture!- but then decided on five because it's about as good as a lecture can get :)

Historia
While human lives are endlessly variable, our most memorable positive moments are dominated by four elements: elevation, insight, pride, and connection. If we embrace these elements, we can conjure more moments that matter. What if a teacher could design a lesson that he knew his students would remember 20 years later? What if a manager knew how to create an experience that would delight customers? What if you had a better sense of how to create memories that matter for your children?

Not bad, but not great
Revisado: 11-02-18
The book has a lot of individually interesting studies, but the information is not tied together that well. I didn't leave with definite clear action points for me. Also, the book is not about "moments" but more about experiences, rituals, goal setting and high points. Putting so many things under a title of "moments" seemed like grasping to extend content and cash in on the current trendiness of mindfulness and present moment awareness.

Historia
If you've ever laughed your way through David Sedaris's cheerfully misanthropic stories, you might think you know what you're getting with Calypso. You'd be wrong. When he buys a beach house on the Carolina coast, Sedaris envisions long, relaxing vacations spent playing board games and lounging in the sun with those he loves most. And it's as idyllic as he imagined, except for one tiny, vexing realization: it's impossible to take a vacation from yourself. With Calypso, Sedaris sets his formidable powers of observation - and dark humor - toward middle age and mortality.

Classic Sedaris
Revisado: 11-02-18
I've enjoyed many of Sedaris' other audiobooks and readings. Calypso is Sedaris at his best: funny, insightful, painfully & hilariously truthful. Calypso presents (understandably) an older Sedaris who is now in his 50s; as I've also aged over the years, it was like re-visiting an old friend.

Historia
The essence of meditation is not something we do; rather, it is simply to be, fully present and aligned with life in the moment. This is the central teaching of Eckhart Tolle’s What Is Meditation? In this audio session, Eckhart helps us transcend our beliefs and ideas about meditation—including the tendency to turn the practice into a means to an end—in order to realize directly our formless nature as being that is primary to any doing.

Best for die-hard Tolle fans
Revisado: 10-25-18
I am a die-hard Tolle fan, so I enjoyed this lecture and have listened to it multiple times, but I would not consider it one of his best. It’s taped from a live lecture in which he seemingly did a bit of mugging for the audience, who greatly appreciated it (lots of laughter) but the facial expressions are lost on the Audible audience.
