All the Emotions
Revisado: 09-15-24
This book should come with a trigger warning. Is it gripping, surprising, and all of the other appropriate words to describe a great thriller? Yes. But the in-depth descriptions and amount of anxiety caused by the author's vigorous attention to detail have caused me to rate this 4 stars instead of 5. I think it will take me a while to recover from the mental imagery stuck in my head. If you love to be terrified by a book, this one will be one of your favorites.

History Weaved Into a Thrilling Storyline
Revisado: 07-22-24
Kate Quinn has become one of my all-time favorite authors with the incredible WW2 novels showing WOMEN'S experiences from Russia (The Diamond Eye and The Huntress) and Britain (The Rose Code). Within these three novels, Kate Quinn has demonstrated a writing style that has me hungry for more, and I look forward to reading all of her other novels. The Diamond Eye was especially exciting because she had so much information about Lady Death and was able to weave that information so perfectly into a story that had me crying, laughing, and gobbling up the last few chapters as I anxiously tried to guess the ending. I will be recommending this book to everyone, including my friends who think they wouldn't like historical fiction, but really have no idea what they are missing by ruling it out!

Historia
Mercury Rhodes and her world were utterly changed when the bombs fell, releasing the green mist. While it proved deadly to all the men who breathed it in, it gave new life to women who did the same. The green mist provided each member of her newfound family an ability: Stella’s heightened intuition, Imani’s earthly connection, Karen’s bond with Spirit, and Gemma’s healing ability. Although Mercury now has incredible physical strength, she doesn’t know if she will be strong enough for what comes next—especially after the death of Ford, their companion through the aftermath of the mist.

Relaxing Post-Apocolyptic Vibes
Revisado: 05-25-24
I am obsessed with this two book series, and I wish it was longer. The combination of the writer's style and the narrator's voice made this such a relaxing listening experience. One of the best parts of this book is the theme of acceptance for religions, cultures, beliefs, etc. and the idea of them working towards building a better world than the one we live in now.

Historia
When the call came it seemed like the answer to my prayers. My career as a voice actor had been over for months and me and my little girl Scarlet were living back at my mum’s place. I felt like a failure professionally—and with Scarlet having problems at school, as a parent as well. So, when I was asked to narrate a new book by disappeared novelist Philippa Roberts I jumped at the chance, even if it meant leaving Scarlet with my ex, Hugo, for a few weeks. Hugo, with his perfect new home and his perfect new girlfriend Saskia. But this isn’t a dream come true. It’s a nightmare.

Great Narration
Revisado: 05-11-24
I quite enjoyed the narration, and liked that I could distinguish between characters' voices pretty easily. Classic thriller plot. The unpredictable twist at the ending was what made this a 4 star instead of just 3. I enjoyed this one, but it was not my favorite out of KL Slater's titles.

Immersive Experience
Revisado: 05-01-24
The performance provides a truly immersive experience, from the sounds of weapons to the kissing (yikes). You truly hear it all. The characters are likeable and make believable choices, unlike many dystopian characters. The ending was unexpected; I love when I can't tell what is going to happen next.

All Time Favorite Book Series Ever
Revisado: 04-22-24
This series is literally going on the shelf I have dedicated to my all-time favorite books!!! The characters were so well-developed and loveable, I fell in love with all of them, even the ones who were hard to love. Actually, especially the ones that were hard to love. I loved them so much I CRIED when the series was over. The themes woven throughout the series give it a timeless quality that will make it relevant no matter how many years pass since it was written. The craze around this series that I saw online before reading is very well deserved, and I am joining in the frenzy of loving all things ACOTAR!

Strong, dynamic female characters
Revisado: 02-13-24
Gripping plot with strong, dynamic female characters. I loved how the story is narrated by the different characters giving different viewpoints and flashbacks. Nina was my favorite character. Many books based around this time period and war are from a male point of view and usually not from a Russian point of view, so I was excited that Nina offered a female Russian perspective.

Nostalgic Feel Good Family Vibes
Revisado: 01-16-24
This story was sweet nostalgia for a time and place I can only imagine. This was the perfect read for me due to my love for the Appalachian mountains and historical fiction. I enjoyed the relationship between Maggie and her mother, and seeing how a mother's childhood affects her daughter. It was refreshing to have a main character who makes decisions I would have made in her position.

Raw, Moving, Inspirational
Revisado: 12-26-23
All those years wondering what was really happening behind the scenes, and what she was really thinking, and now it is all laid out before the world. Good for her for being the hero in her own story, and for finally finding the joy of true freedom. I hope writing down her story and then sharing it is a cathartic release for her, and the people she surrounds herself with are worthy of her trust. Needless to say, I was moved by her raw, emotional story and I am thankful she shared it, as it is inspirational and reminds me to fight for and value every bit of freedom I have.
