So if you're looking for the voice of the beloved Jake Sullivan forget it. That raspy, gin soaked set of pipes is nowhere to be found. Instead they have some nanny boy pretending to be Jake.

just give this one a skip!

Ok so I usually don't write reviews but, the ending of this book was so out of character. So, "God why can't I finish this book", it left me baffled. Did Campbell have writers block, a bathroom emergency? Possibly carpal tunnel? Was the battery on his laptop dying? I just don't know. Did he watch the ending to the Soprano's too many times. One moment I'm enjoying yet another Hard Luck Hank. The very next moment "the end"! with a brief and somewhat concise, "Oh, this kinda happened at the end" paragraph description. It was kinda like Campbell said I'm tired of being the creative part of this partnership. Go ahead and work the ending out for yourself. It was a thanks for coming moment. I love Hard Luck Hank and was thoroughly enjoying this story till the point Campbell gave up writing. I can only hope whatever distracted him is banished by the next book. Or the next book could be like "Hank lives in a city. He is constantly struggling from one dilemma to the next. The end".

Larry is amazing. His character development, his interweaved plot and subplots, his attention to detail and vivid description which brings the story to life. He has the true makings of a sci-fi master.

You quickly start to develop a liking for the characters and understand their motives. As the story grows so do they drawing you deeper and deeper.

Give it a try you'll like it!

Once again Kevin Hearne has done it. A story with suspense, action, humor while continuing to build awesome characters. I reluctantly started this series and I'm so glad I did.

Best of all there was no gratuitous sex for sex sake. I'm so weary of all of these urban fantasy novels falling back on sex to sustain the story. Kevin thank you for writing a novel with a REAL story to it.

Try it, you'll like it!

What would have made Mechanique better?

The story seemed flawed from the onset. Poor character development. Flash forwards and flash backs made an already disjointed story even worse. How this is supposed to be steampunk, I'm not really sure. It had a more supernatural/post apocolyptic twist to it then steam punk.At one point I forgot to turn off my audio player. I came back 15 minutes later and I was actually glad I didn't have to suffer another 15 minutes of that story. About 10 minutes later I decided to not suffer anymore of this horrible story.

What was most disappointing about Genevieve Valentine’s story?

The disjointedness of it didn't allow for any story flow.

What didn’t you like about Scott Aiello’s performance?

He did the best he could with what he had.

Any additional comments?

Sorry if my review is poorly worded. I submitted it from my cellphone.

Ok, so John Glover is a lack luster stand-in for James Marsters. That wasn't the death of this for me though. It was the change in Butcher's writing style. All I can say is "What the hell happened?". James I expected better of you. You make a crack about one of the characters getting a "word-a-day" calendar, but maybe you borrowed this from real life. You struggled to incorporate this new and fancier vocabulary. It wasn't on the tongue of one of Harry's jibes and it seemed out of place and overworked. "Ugh" some the whole thing up.
