Unique & fun read, not shallow

This is my 1st read by this British author, who also narrates her book with a lovely but a bit fast-paced British accent. The book strikes a good balance between entertaining & serious & is both a romance and a life-story. It presents an interesting plot & characters. Worth the read if you don't mind the British accent, which I don't but I know some people have more difficulty enjoying audiobooks with certain types of accent, so just heads up.

Non-stereotypical life story with romance

This builds on the personal story of one of the previous book ("Sorry, Not Sorry") characters and it is not just a story involving romance but rather a personal growth story, which is not too heavy or deep but not shallow either. Just a nice read/listen where you can't help but root for the characters.

Older story

I think this one is from the earlier stories by this author. It is pretty dramatic, not as smooth as many of her other stories. It is hard to tell the age of the characters because female narrator's voice & mannerism makes both her & male character sound like they are in their 40ies, which would be refreshing for a change, but where they are in their careers & lives makes it unlikely. Also, a male voice done by a male actor is in total dissonance with the way female does male voice parts. Maybe it is because I personally do not care for performer's voices & mannerisms & prefer her books be narrated by a younger duo when portraying young characters, it was hard for me to like.

Story of hope & true love

I love how this author branches out and includes some controversial scenarios or twists. This story gives hope to older women who hope for a chance of true love after their first marriages fall apart. If course it is only a story but at least it is an uplifting one. Narration is perfect by this team, as always

Great romance with great tragedies

Vi Keeland seems to have a talent for writing up characters that 1st appear as stereotypical gorgeous shallow people yet later reveal harboring some noble qualities and great past tragedies that make them wary of love and commitment. And of course the seemingly more wholesome down-to-earth character ends up cracking hard shell of the cocky commitmentphobic one, bringing up and healing a vulnerable side of their counterpart, suffering their share in the process. There are always unexpected past secrets and love always wins and heals it all. This story is no exception and narration by this famous team is a true icing on the cake.

Long interesting with an expected twist

The narration is perfect, as always with this voice team. Writing keeps you hooked and offers a real shocker towards the end but no point in giving spoilers. Quite a story. I could not think this up if I tried. Worth the long listen & I plan to listen to it again to look for clues of the unexpected twist.

Advesaries to Lovers story

As often with these author-narrator team, the story is full of both bickering and funny banter but an overconfident hero does overcome heroine's dislike and more. There are also some underlying tragedies in both heros lives that adds a twist to the story balancing out lightness and sadness. Best love stories always have some suffering or struggle heros go through to bring them closer and this one was no exception.

Story with spunk, tragedy, humor and happy ending

Hard not to love the story of a woman with high esteem cracking a cocky hard exterior and taming of a successful womanizer, without much effort, just byuh being herself. Story just pulls you in as complicated layers unravel and each character shows their hidden soft side becoming vulnerable and revealing their personal tragedies.
Author also shows how foster system traumatizes children for life instead of helping them, how differently people handle grief and mental illness. Also what can happen when a person with mental illness does not want to admit and accept responsibility for her condition which includes willingness to stay in counseling and taking medication. But of course most of us have no idea what it is like to be in those shoes and how to live with regret for years, knowing a tragedy could have been prevented. Nothing is simple.
Just like many Vi Keeland's stories, this one has more depth than most modern romances full of young beautiful people with carefree lifestyles. Here there is still a rich handsome Ken and a successful Barbie, but they are shown to be more than that. And even with some heavy tragic events, story has an easy flow and lightness. Author always makes sure main characters "come through" in the end and all challenges work themselves out.

Classy modern romance

Why Classy? - because too many modern romances are full of "cool" modern swearing people where the story is overwhelmed by shocking language and explicit sex scenes. This author team does include some of these elements - maybe it is a requirement for a modern romance genre, maybe for most people a story without swearing is not "real-life" enough and without spicy sex is not exciting enough, I am guessing. But these authors do not rely on these elements to keep their novels interesting; they actually come up with original story lines with surprises. Any spicy language and sex scenes are sprinkled here or there, where these elements organically flow with the story without dominating. This story is no exception and reflects true story-making talent. Still same old love story but with unexpected twists and depth to characters & great message to be true to and with oneself, above all. Vi Keeland always makes her main characters kind of noble, with character and strength, which gives people hope.
Of course the narrators, already many people's favorites, do a wonderful job
