Very enjoyable condensation
Revisado: 05-15-23
This is an authentic condensation of the books in the No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency series through No. 18 dramatized by AMS himself so it feels right. I really enjoyed it even though I’ve read the books several times.

I have been an Elizabeth Cadell fan for many years and was so very happy to fine some of them available on Audible. I hope they keep coming.
This one is a particular favorite and her daughter does a good job narrating. Very enjoyable mystery and romance with Cadell’s trademark humor and psychological insights.

Historia
Edmund Forth, a handsome young man in his mid-30s (though admittedly, a bit stogy and sober for his years) is engaged to the beautiful but selfish Angela Wilde. His world seems perfect until lovely Fran Nash comes riding into his life on the back of a Portuguese donkey. Fran’s sunny personality melts Edmund’s reserve, and when she changes a few words of a telegram he had entrusted to her, Fran also alters the whole course of his settled existence.

So enjoyable!!!
Revisado: 01-21-19
This is one of Elizabeth Cadell’s very best books. I’ve read all of them I could find and this one is a favorite along with The Lark Shall Sing and Six Impossible Things. I enjoy how she takes seemingly unrelated story lines and ties them in a pretty little bow!!!

Historia
Julia Probyn, like most people, knew very little about anonymous numbered accounts in Swiss Banks. Until her cousin, Colin Munro, asked her to look into the matter of one containing a fortune, for his fiancée Aglaia Armitage, left to her by her Greek grandfather. Then Julia learned a great deal. But besides bonds and debentures, old Mr. Thalassides, proved to have left documents of vital interest to the British Secret Service, and to other Powers as well, in the vault with them. When these disappear, the hunt begins.

Most enjoyable!
Revisado: 01-04-19
I found Ann Bridge by accident and I’m so glad I did. I find her books quiet and restful but they still keep my interest. I’m learning all about the countries her books are set in and I find myself looking up the places she mentions so I can really understand the logistics of the story. Bridge’s Julia Probyn series is both informative and interesting. Julia is kind and clever but also real. I think Elizabeth Jasicki handles all the accents very well and sounds true to Julia’s character.

Historia
Welcome to winter in Three Pines, a picturesque village in Quebec, where the villagers are preparing for a traditional country Christmas, and someone is preparing for murder. No one liked CC de Poitiers. Not her quiet husband, not her spineless lover, not her pathetic daughter - and certainly none of the residents of Three Pines. CC de Poitiers managed to alienate everyone, right up until the moment of her death. When Chief Inspector Armand Gamache, of the Sûreté du Quebec, is called to investigate, he quickly realizes he's dealing with someone quite extraordinary.

Good story, interesting characters, but . . .
Revisado: 08-08-16
I enjoyed this story a lot but found myself cringing at the offensive language which was much more frequent in this book than in the author's first Gamache book. Arguably it was somewhat necessary to the storyline but it still seemed disrespectful and offensive. I'm going on to book number three and plan on giving this series up if the author continues to include this objectionable language in her books. I believe an author can write a good, absorbing, and sophisticated novel without her Audible listeners having to turn down the speakers if the grandkids walk by. I would dearly love to recommend this story and, indeed the entire series, to my 72 year old mother but how can I do it? And it's too bad because it is a good book!!!

Alexander McCall Smith never disappoints and Bertie's Guide to Life and Mothers is no exception. McCall Smith's gentle tongue in cheek humor is pointed but kind. A most enjoyable way to spend hours in a car!

Historia
The Great Recession has shuffled Clay Jannon out of his life as a San Francisco Web-design drone - and serendipity, sheer curiosity, and the ability to climb a ladder like a monkey has landed him a new gig working the night shift at Mr. Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore. But after just a few days on the job, Clay begins to realize that this store is even more curious than the name suggests. There are only a few customers, but they come in repeatedly and never seem to actually buy anything....
