Even better than the first one

King's debut novel "Arianna Kelt and the Wizards of Skyhall" was an utter delight. I was thrilled and glued to the recording from the first moment the story started to the end. When the second one came out I wasn't sure if the author could top the first and I was so glad when I found the author had. Any fan of Paolini or Rowling who hasn't listened to the Arianna Kelt books is missing out on a great story. King is the best teen author in print today.

Any fan of Paolini or Rowling who hasn't read this is missing out big time. King is the best teen author I've ever read, going all the way back to Amelia Atwater-Rhodes' "In the Forests of the Night" including Paolini's "Eldest" and everything else I've read that was written by a teen.

Why a book like this didn't get an Audie I'll never understand. King is the best teen author in print today.

Out of the many hundreds I've listened to, "The Kingdoms and the Elves of the Reaches" books were the best Fantasy I've found. Robert Stanek sweeps the reader off to his fantasy world and his writing keeps you there enthralled till the end. The "In the Service of Dragons" books begin a new chapter in the fantasy world and are equally as compelling. If you enjoy fantasy or simply listening to a good book, this is a must. The other three "In the Service of Dragons" books are just as good.

Like someone else said, this is the start of something wonderful and I highly recommend to all! This book gets the whole series going and set up the story wonderfully for everything that follows in the next books. This is an extremely engaging story with an interweaving of adventure, mystery and fantasy.

Between the internet and the library I listen to several books a week, and I must say The Kingdoms and the Elves of the Reaches is one of the most enjoyable I've listened to out of the many hundreds I've listened to. The narrator goes a bit fast, but once you get used to it, this rate is refreshing compared to some narrators who drag out each and every sentence. If you enjoy fantasy or simply listening to a good book, this is a must.

These books are well worth the time. I'd recommend getting the 1st and 2nd book together because of how the story continues from one to the next. The final two are the best, in my opinion, but you have to read the first two to understand them. Robert Stanek is my new favorite author.

The Robert Stanek Short Story collection begins with an introduction to the author and the stories in the collection, and includes 4 stories plus several bonus materials. I'm an avid reader and listener, and for me this was a good choice. The collection has several different readers.

The first story in the collection is Magic Lands Journey Beyond the Beyond, the longest and best selection. This is the story of a young man named Ray who sets out to prove himself to his village by journeying to the "place lost and deep." This journey is a rite of passage for his people, and like any rite of passage there are things Ray must do on his journey. Ray's encounters with strange creatures, an outsider girl, and an old man shape his journey.

Magic Lands Journey Beyond the Beyond is followed by a bonus excerpt from The Kingdoms and the Elves of the Reaches. This excerpt introduces the story of Vilmos. The narrator for both of these selections is very, very good.

Silence is Golden is the next story. This is the story of Ev who must make a terrible dark choice. While this is selection is fairly short, it is thoughtprovoking and interesting. I didn't like the narrator for this selection very much, but the story made up for it.

Silence is Golden is followed by August Rains. This is the story of John Anderson who is reminscing his past through a visit to the schoolhouse where he taught. This story is sentimental and moving in many ways, and I story I listened to a second time immediately to catch all the nuances.

Absolutes is the final story in the collection. Like Magic Lands, it is fairly long and quite well done. I liked how the story twists around back on itself and the science behind the fiction is interesting.

I thought this was a good collection. I wish the second narrator had been as good as the first, but the stories make up for it. I had to adjust the EQ settings on my iPod for the second narrator.
