This book is absolutely incredible. it helps you delve deeper into WHY you react to things the way you do and where the root is. It helps you recognize areas in your life you didn't pay attention to. one of my favorite things is how it mentions that sometimes we need to be the parents our parents never had.

Wonderful performance! Intriguing characters.

This story was wonderfully narrated and leaves you feeling like you've been sucked into their world. There is so much depth and the story touches on gender and race roles as well as breaking them. The main character has a lot of development and by the end, you start to really respect him for all he's endured and all he has changed his views on. Also, his sister is a total rebel in th best ways possible! she defies the expectations given to a young lady in her time.

The narrator was absolutely amazing. the story had a lot of depth and character development. There is a delicate balance between growing up in a mentally and physically abusive home while also trying to hide the damage and keeping a heavy secret. The father surprises you!
