Typical of the self help genre, this book offers inspirational platitudes, but little pragmatic advice. I would avoid it.

I couldn't bring myself to finish it. The whole of the book seems jumbled and, ultimately, nit useful.

Orion organizes and elevates much of the content you'll find throughout the manosphere. So, if you're already familiar with the discussions regarding intersexual dynamics, evolutionary psychology/biology and behavioral economics, then you won't find a lot of surprises. However, Orion's work is so well done I expect it to become THE starting point most people will recommend to others, particularly if those readers are open-minded, independent, critical thinkers. Orion nicely packages the facts and analysis in such a fashion that you don't need to seek multiple sources to assemble the holistic perspective yourself. It really is quite an accomplishment, given the complexity of the topic.

Be warned, though, for even if you are seeking to better understand (something approximating) the objective reality of the current sexual marketplace, you might find your attachment to certain ideals (in a Buddhist sense) will prompt an uncomfortable emotional response to the proposed version of reality. I just finished the book and I'm reeling, feeling as if I've lost a mooring on which most of my life has been predicated. This could take me years to fully process. Orion seems to sense this response by readers might be typical, as he provides the example of young women failing to realize their value before it has already declined because 1) the rapid change of a destabilized environment and a corresponding loss of value in the guidance of elders and 2) childhood indoctrination in (feminist) ideology that serves to delay/distract from interpreting reality more accurately, which usually occurs AFTER the pre-frontal cortex is fully developed (if ever).

Orion highlights that life is an evolving game in which the rules are subject to change and the only goal of the game is to keep playing, to survive and to reproduce. Accepting that reality, as it is, without judgement, likely won't be easy for most readers, me included. If you doubt this, just watch some of the thousands of videos on YouTube on the gender wars and perception gaps between men and women. So, I'll offer a prediction... This book, if it gains any meaningful amount of popularity/notoriety, will most likely be misinterpreted and misrepresented by a wide variety of entrenched interests. If that happens, I'll be thinking, "There are none so blind as those who will not see".

I stuck with it for about an hour, giving the author a chance to hook me, but she failed. Nail in the coffin was the over generalization of men and use of tired tropes regarding gender that flowed from a drunk man telling her to smile. It is a memoir and deserves some latitude, but I ran out of patience with the seeming pointless rambling.

The key message of the book is straightforward... People aren't always offering honest signals, which anonymous Google Search data confirms. I wasn't surprised by anything I read. So, this feels, mostly, like a collection of short articles that could have been even less wordy. Like... 50% fewer words. Maybe 75%.

This feels as if it is written by a graduate student, regurgitating a wide array of concepts and definitions. This isn't the clear communication you would expect from a therapist that has mastered their craft. The master makes the complex simple, focusing on the critical core. The book fails to be practical and useful. I regret buying it.

If you like cultish belief systems and/or believe women have no agency, then read this book.

I don't even know where to start as there is so much nonsense in this book, but all of it seems baseless, as if you're receiving the preaching from a cult leader.

While this book promises to explain a modern masculinity, it expresses a old trope regarding women. Women are slaves to their emotions, which are constantly shifting and unpredictable. So, women have no agency? We can't hold them accountable for their actions? Whatever happens in our relationship is, by definition, a success or failure of the masculine?

Anyway, this book is full of sh!t.

Love the fact-based and data-driven descriptive analysis that helps me to form my own conclusions regarding history. I'm less enamored with the prescriptive solutions proposed, where Piketty's socialist/collectivism/statist bias are obvious.

Packed full of data. Data sometimes overwhelms the broader context. Not an easy read.
