Historia
Among the most celebrated and beloved novels of 2021, Anthony Doerr’s gorgeous third novel is a triumph of imagination and compassion, a soaring story about children on the cusp of adulthood in worlds in peril, who find resilience, hope—and a book. In Cloud Cuckoo Land, Doerr has created a magnificent tapestry of times and places that reflects our vast interconnectedness—with other species, with each other, with those who lived before us, and with those who will be here after we’re gone.

Pleasant surprise!
Revisado: 04-12-25
After reading All the Light You Cannot See, I was enchanted by Doerr’s writing. When Cloud Cuckoo Land was published I was unsure from the details if it would be the thing for me, but Doerr did it again and enchanted me while also underlining the destruction we’ve caused to our planet. I’m not a Sci-fi or Fantasy reader usually, and not even sure if this fits those categories, but this worked for a fiction lover! I look forward to his next book.

Heart-full and soul-full
Revisado: 12-26-24
What a wonderful reminder that our everyday lives are filled with ups and downs and that sometimes we get to process those moments and learn from them. Sometimes we process alone and sometimes with a friend or therapist. And in the end: love is love. I laughed and I cried as I listened. To add to my amusement and learning is that this book and others by Elizabeth Strout are mostly set in Maine. Living on the west coast, I like hearing that perspective in a story as well. This book has really touched me and I hope it stays with me a long time.

Not exciting and too religious
Revisado: 11-27-24
Once again I find who we did the categorizing of words for the book should have included Religious or Christian as a description. Fine for those who want it and a loss of a whole 2.99 for those of us who bought it and audible won’t return a sale title.
The story had some interesting points but it was dragging and interspersed with the religious stuff.

Mostly good
Revisado: 11-12-24
A sweet love story set in two time periods in the 20th century. There’s a little too much religion for my taste but I kept on to hear the outcome of the characters. It’s been worth it. It would have been better for the author to keep her religion out of a good story and for Audible to mark “Christian” on its tags.

It keeps going and oh so well!
Revisado: 11-02-24
Louise Penny is a master mystery writer. As I’ve read (and re-read ) each title, I’ve felt like I’ve become a citizen of Three Pines, Quebec, Canada. This one had many twists, turns, suspense and even a thread to the next story. The new narrator did well. All in all, it’s so worth listening to the whole series, with this being another winner for sure!

Not worth your time
Revisado: 07-23-24
It is hard to listen to. It sounds like it’s echoing the whole time. The transitions aren’t understandable. The “acting” is poor. Stopped part way as it’s irritating. Not the usual audible original.

Historia
Mia, the irreverent, hyperanalytical twenty-year-old daughter, has an explanation for everything—which is why she isn’t initially concerned when her father and younger brother Eugene don’t return from a walk in a nearby park. They must have lost their phone. Or stopped for an errand somewhere. But by the time Mia’s brother runs through the front door bloody and alone, it becomes clear that the father in this tight-knit family is missing and the only witness is Eugene, who has the rare genetic condition Angelman syndrome and cannot speak.

Don’t get comfortable in assumptions
Revisado: 06-23-24
I loved this second book from Angie Kim! She wrote a very intelligent narrator. She reminded us not to assume things about people—second language learners and people with disabilities as the main focus. I found this book entertaining, gripping and full of emotional hugs and lows. All this came through the story’s narrator’s young 20s perspective. The readers for the story did an excellent job as well. I kept fining things to do so I could keep listening!

The hurdles of incarceration
Revisado: 06-09-24
The path out of incarceration is so fraught. Mama Love tells how she made it, inch by inch. Our system is archaic and we aren’t doing nearly enough. This is inspiring, along with being so frustrating to understand the many hurdles.

Implausible enough to ruin it
Revisado: 11-09-23
Way too many implausible twists and turns. Started okay and most narrators good. The man’s narration for the judge and in other parts was absolutely awful and made me cringe more than the plot. Nit sure why I read to the end but almost found it comical to see how the author tied up all the pieces.
