Historia
Two years ago, a hostile Prime Minister launched the Monochrome inquiry, investigating "historical over-reaching" by the British Secret Service “to investigate historical over-reaching.” Monochrome’s mission was to ferret out any hint of misconduct by any MI5 officer—and allowed Griselda Fleet and Malcolm Kyle, the two civil servants seconded to the project, unfettered access to any and all confidential information in the Service archives in order to do so. But MI5’s formidable First Desk did not become Britain’s top spy by accident, and she has successfully thwarted the inquiry at every turn.

When is Slough House not Slough House.
Revisado: 06-07-24
Ok so officially this is not a Slough House book. However it features several of the same characters even if they are not directly named. It does work as a standalone but also as background to the characters and events.

Revisado: 12-29-23
Up until recently this has not been available in the US unabridged. Although this is the book Karen gets introduced and is classed as book 1, Karen is barely in it.

Not Steve or Scott's finest hour
Revisado: 04-02-23
The plot is somewhat a stretch. The locations are not that well researched (despite what he says at the end). For example Oxford Circus is at the intersection of Oxford and Regents Streets not Bond Street which is a different stop completely. Also Royal Windsor Golf course would take exception to a certain comment about the golf club featured. Scott', who I normally love, butchers all the English accents. When you've finished google the tale on which this story relies and you will see that it's very much been debunked. Not their finest hour!

Historia
Not too long from today, a new, highly contagious virus makes its way across the globe. Most who get sick experience nothing worse than flu, fever, and headaches. But for the unlucky one percent - and nearly five million souls in the United States alone - the disease causes "Lock In": Victims fully awake and aware, but unable to move or respond to stimulus. The disease affects young, old, rich, poor, people of every color and creed. The world changes to meet the challenge.

Good but can Scalzi stop with the He said She said
Revisado: 05-10-22
The story is a fun detective story. Over the last few months been listening to a bunch of regular police procedurals and figured a lighthearted sci fi one would make a change. And it was fun, but for the dialogue. Not the actual speech but ending each and every line with he said or she said. Come on, you don't need to do that when it's obvious. It gets rather annoying. Wil also doesn't vary his voice at all which in some ways doesn't bring the dialogue to life. That said Wil's voice is easy to listen to and doesn't bore. The novella attached to it uses multiple voices more like World War Z and is interesting to listen to with the hindsight of the last couple of years.

Historia
James Dommek, Jr., an Alaska Native writer and musician, sheds new light on a real-life mystery that pits Native American folklore against the US justice system. In the vast Alaskan Arctic, legend has it there once lived a mythic tribe—Iñukuns—that only existed in rumors and whispers. This changed forever when an actor-turned-fugitive, Teddy Kyle Smith, had an encounter that brought Iñukuns from myth to reality. Smith was an aspiring actor with a promising career until it all came quickly crashing down with a gunshot, a manhunt, bloodshed, and other frightful events.

Seems lacking in purpose
Revisado: 11-21-19
At the end there was a feeling of so what. It seemed lacking in direction. There was not enough details of the stories of his people or how the event could be related to them. With the actual stories of his people it could have been a lot better.

Read part one first
Revisado: 11-02-18
This book is part of a multi part work. You really have to have read book 1 to understand this book. I'm not really spoiling anything to say it also ends on a huge cliffhanger. Just as you think you're getting to a conclusion the rug is pulled from your feet and you're left waiting for part 3. The plot twists remind me of Michael Connelly, though the way the subjects are described and the style of the characters is more Jeff Lindsay. Highly recommended if you've read book 1 and have the patience to wait for book 3. (Guessing mid 2019)

Boring
Revisado: 06-06-18
Considering his other books, this is terrible. I was expecting something scary. I barely got through it it was so dull. This is no I am Legend. This is something you'd find in the super discount. If it wasn't for some bizarre sex references it would be a kids book.

Get your accent right!
Revisado: 06-06-18
I don't know what accent that was but it wasn't Scottish. Also when you are talking as a real historical character maybe you pronounce his name right. As a Scotsman also drinking Irish whiskey is unlikely. All these led to a somewhat distracted listen. Not recommended.

After Mark's last Twin Peaks book, one expected more. This seemed hurried and short. Almost like the crib notes for the recent TV series rather than anything more. Disappointed.
