Historia
When the enslaved Jim overhears that he is about to be sold to a man in New Orleans, separated from his wife and daughter forever, he decides to hide on nearby Jackson Island until he can formulate a plan. Meanwhile, Huck Finn has faked his own death to escape his violent father, recently returned to town. As all readers of American literature know, thus begins the dangerous and transcendent journey by raft down the Mississippi River toward the elusive and too-often-unreliable promise of the Free States and beyond.

Excellent and heartfelt
Revisado: 05-16-24
I loved this book and could hardly put it down. To me it spoke of the power love and endurance. I read Huckleberry Finn as a child but remember little about it, but I don’t think it was necessary for understanding and appreciating this story.

Historia
The number one New York Times best-selling story about American Olympic triumph in Nazi Germany, the inspiration for the PBS documentary The Boys of '36, broadcast to coincide with the 2016 Summer Olympics and the 80th anniversary of the boys' gold medal race. Out of the depths of the Depression comes an irresistible story about beating the odds and finding hope in the most desperate of times - the improbable, intimate account of how nine working-class boys from the American West showed the world at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin what true grit really meant.

I loved every minute of this book. The writing is brilliant, and the narrator really captured the mood of the story. It might be my new favorite book of all times.

Historia
From Barack Obama’s chief speechwriter Cody Keenan, a spellbinding account of the ten most dramatic days of the presidency, when a hate-fueled massacre and looming Supreme Court decisions put the character of our country on the line, and a president’s words could bring the nation together or tear it apart.

I loved, loved this book
Revisado: 01-21-23
The author really personalized the book by reading it himself. I enjoyed all the insight into life in the White House, and was riveted by the tense 10 days that are central to the book. I cried at the end, tears of joy.

Historia
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

What a fun book!
Revisado: 01-09-22
I've listened to hundreds of books on Audible, but this is by far the most entertaining one I've listened to yet. The story was engaging and Ray Porter absolutely brings the characters to life with his vivid narration. I was sorry when it was over!

Historia
The daughter of immigrants and civil rights activists, Vice President Kamala Harris was raised in an Oakland, California, community that cared deeply about social justice. As she rose to prominence as one of the political leaders of our time, her experiences would become her guiding light as she grappled with an array of complex issues and learned to bring a voice to the voiceless. In The Truths We Hold, she reckons with the big challenges we face together.

At once full of hope and frustrating
Revisado: 07-13-21
I have been a Kamala Harris fan for some time, but after reading this book, she is now my hero. She is so spot-on about the issues, sparing no details and not glossing over the present-day obstacles we face. I really think everyone owes it to themselves to read this book.

Historia
Welcome to the fabled Gold Coast, that stretch on the North Shore of Long Island that once held the greatest concentration of wealth and power in America. Here two men are destined for an explosive collision: John Sutter, Wall Street lawyer, holding fast to a fading aristocratic legacy; and Frank Bellarosa, the Mafia don who seizes his piece of the staid and unprepared Gold Coast like a latter-day barbarian chief and draws Sutter and his regally beautiful wife, Susan, into his violent world.

Incongruous in Today's Climate
Revisado: 06-29-21
I read the reviews before buying this book. I don't disagree that it's well written with well developed characters and an interesting story line. But it's too much about white privilege. And in today's climate, with the long overdue focus on racism in this country, I find myself unable to enjoy such a story.

The international adventures of this sardonic and amoral anti-hero combine the irony of The Third Man with the fast-paced thrills of The Bourne Identity. Good read
Revisado: 02-24-16
Where does The Identity Thief rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
This is just my kind of story, and kept me interested the whole time with its twists and turns. Good character development.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of C. Michael Forsyth?
I guess I'm spoiled by the professional quality of the narrators of other books. I had a hard time understanding this narrator's sing-song voice, and large range of volumes. Half the time I could barely hear him, and the other half it felt like he was shouting. The every once in a while there was a large hiss that was that very distracting.
