Historia
One gorgeous autumn day, Harrison discovers that his wife—the sweet, funny, loving mother of their three daughters, a woman “who’s spent just about every Sunday of her life in a church”—is having an affair with a family friend. This revelation propels the hysterical, heartbreaking events in How to Stay Married, casting our narrator onto “the factory floor of hell,” where his wife was now in love with a man who “wears cargo shorts, on purpose.” What will he do? Kick her out?

Required reading for Christians before marriage
Revisado: 07-04-23
This is the most romantic and difficult book I have ever “read” (listened to on audiobook - which I recommend because it was impactful listening to the author recount his experiences). I have not read a more honest, relatable, and complete description of perseverance through brokenness and pain - with a good dose of humor to help the medicine go down. It should be required reading for Christians before they marry. Folks - it takes a merciful God and a supportive village to do marriage and parenting - and you’ll still bruise. But it’s worth it.

Didn't see my phone for hours at a time
Revisado: 02-15-17
My kids loved this story so much they would take my phone any chance they got to listen to the audiobook. I didn't see my phone for hours at a time.

Historia
Nory Horace is nine years old. She's resourceful, she's brave, she likes peanut butter cookies. Also, she's able to transform into many different animals. Unfortunately, Nory's shape-shifting talent is a bit wonky. And when she flunks out of her own father's magic academy, Nory's forced to enter public school, where she meets a group of kids whose magic is, well, different.

Can't wait for next book
Revisado: 02-10-16
My kids and I couldn't stop listening to this book. The storyline is compelling and the characters are nuanced yet approachable to even a 3rd and 2nd grader. We all reacted strongly to it emotionally - feeling angry when the characters were hurt and joy when they had their triumphs.

Historia
In Dad is Fat, stand-up comedian Jim Gaffigan, who’s best known for his legendary riffs on Hot Pockets, bacon, manatees, and McDonald's, expresses all the joys and horrors of life with five young children - everything from cousins ("celebrities for little kids") to toddlers’ communication skills ("they always sound like they have traveled by horseback for hours to deliver important news"), to the eating habits of four-year-olds ("there is no difference between a four-year-old eating a taco and throwing a taco on the floor").

Spot on re parenthood
Revisado: 07-09-15
I wouldn't recommend this book for anyone who isn't a parent of young children. But since I am one, I thoroughly enjoyed how Jim Gaffigan celebrates, mocks, and bemoans our state in life. It is spot on! Tears came to my eyes sometimes from laughter and other times from joyful "Hallmark" glowy feelings about my kids.

Historia
In Lunchroom Tales, Bill Harley and his band - the Troublemakers - return to the Delaware Trails Elementary School where Bill once roamed the halls as a student. They kick off their show with the song "Everyone's a Little Bit Different" - but soon, memories get the best of Bill, and he begins to recount adventures and disasters from his former days of glory (or was it torture?). Meet Mr. Hambleman, the custodian (not janitor!) and Mrs. Nottingham, the terrifying 3rd grade teacher (are teachers human, or are they a different species?), explore super cool places like the back of the bus, and enjoy Harley's engaging recreation - through song and story - of what it feels like to be a kid in school.

More sweet nostalgia than funny...
Revisado: 07-01-15
I am used to the more silly stories by Bill Harley so these stories - which are more nostalgic than funny - came as a bit of a surprise to me. Still enjoyable, though. I don't typically consider myself a softie but teared up during the beautiful (and sad) Kevin story. Great conversation piece for the kids and I. And totally get the teacher's viewpoint during Mrs. Nottingham story.
