A realistic view of domestic abuse
Revisado: 02-01-23
This book shows a realistic view of why some women stay. It shows why it’s so difficult to make the decision to leave. Abusive partners are not all bad. They have stories. They have pain. It’s easy to make excuses for them because you do love them. I appreciate that this book shows the intricacies of relationships and that everything is not black and white.

Did Not Disappoint
Revisado: 01-09-23
The only regret I have is not reading this sooner. The narration was amazing, and Octavia Butler delivered as only she could.

Historia
For years, rumors of the "Marsh Girl" have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand.

Worth the wait
Revisado: 03-01-22
After reading BGMDE, I immediately pre-ordered this book. It was absolutely worth the wait. I absolutely love this narrator and will be looking for more books that she brings to life. And needless to say, Jayne Allen has a lifelong fan in me.

Historia
Baby Boy Fisher was raised in institutions from the moment of his birth in prison to a single mother. He ultimately came to live with a foster family, where he endured near-constant verbal and physical abuse. In his midteens he escaped and enlisted in the navy, where he became a man of the world, raised by the family he created for himself. Finding Fish shows how, out of this unlikely mix of deprivation and hope, an artist was born.

Totally different than the movie
Revisado: 09-01-21
I hesitated on buying this book because I thought it would just be a retell of the same story from the movie. I’m glad I tried it out anyway. This book was so well told and captured so much that was not a part of the movie. As a matter of fact, there are probably only a handful of similarities between the book and movie except for the characters. This was a wonderful book. Highly recommended.
