The narrator’s sarcastic interpretation of the material. She was practically snarling.
I’m not surprised that the author is not seen as an historian, in spite of obvious research

She’s got a great job at a VA Hospital, an adorable daughter, and a loving husband. Granted, it would be wonderful if her preschooler wouldn’t wake her up at three in the morning, and it would be a miracle if her husband would change the toilet paper roll once every millennium. Still, in most ways, she has the ideal life she’d always imagined. Then Jane discovers that Dr. Ryan Reilly is the VA’s newest vascular surgeon. Dr. Ryan Reilly, a.k.a. sexy surgeon, a.k.a. the biggest jerk she ever loved.

Main character flips from one decision to the next with deep assurance, but no, maybe she still loves the husband, but should she leave him? Not today. Maybe later tonight, or no, remember when she loved him? And this woman is a doctor?

This is my first negative review because I respect anyone dedicated enough to create a story, write it down, and have it published, but this one is so very tedious, the characters so uninteresting, the plot so very slow, I could not finish it. The only aspect which was interesting, and the reason I chose it, was the setting Bletchley Park, and the deciphering of the Enigma code. I do not care enough to finish it, even to learn who the heck is the spy!

Why such bad reviews?
Revisado: 10-23-22
The title is, in many ways, misleading. I thought it was going to be a critique of the monied class of Fifth Ave, but it is more like a must-read for parents who hope to help their children get into college. This is an expert’s look into the complicated process that it is, especially if one resides in NYC, and whose children attend private school. Lesson learned: avoid having wealthy, successful, competitive parents, read The Great Gatsby and play competitive squash.
The author does not suffer from envy, but more like, pity. Pity for the lives her students must live to survive in the highly competitive universe into which they have been born.
I recommend this to anyone who is in the process of helping a child find their way through the maze of college admission. The author has written a guide of exactly what to do, and not do, keeping in mind your child’s personality, and helping them to find the right fit.

Historia
An explosive, heartbreaking memoir from the widow of Mark Madoff and daughter-in-law of Bernard Madoff, the first genuine inside story from a family member who has lived through - and survived - both the public crisis and her own deeply personal tragedy. In this candid insider account, she talks about her idyllic wedding to Mark, what it was really like to be a part of the Madoff family, the build-up to Bernard's confession, and the media frenzy that followed. It is about the loss of the fairytale life she knew and the tragic and final loss of her husband.

Can’t believe all the negative reviews!
Revisado: 09-25-22
Why would you find her anything but persecuted? Seems to me that she is the only real person in that whole strangely bizarre family. Why is she condemned just because she has (had) wealth? Her husband was incredibly abused by the press, and he chose the only path he could stand any longer. I wish her only the best.
And, her narration was great, especially her imitation of Ruth. No actor could have done better. I’m sorry her story has ended.

Historia
In 1964 Kathy McKeon was just 19 years old and newly arrived from Ireland when she was hired as the personal assistant to former first lady Jackie Kennedy. The next 13 years of her life were spent in Jackie's service, during which Kathy not only played a crucial role in raising young Caroline and John Jr. but also had a front-row seat to some of the 20th century's most significant events.

This is a memoir which will be remembered 100 years from now
Revisado: 08-24-21
The author is articulate, believable, and clearly not out to make money, but rather reveal the extremely unique place she held in the life of this famous woman. She writes with a combination of youth and integrity, and with credibility which has shown itself to be true with time (ie that Caroline was “difficult” and John Jr was beginning to realize it after only a year of marriage). So many revelations about her mistress which revealed her (JKO) true personage.
I was disgusted by the affluence revealed when the new governess was requested to stay behind and prepare food for Onassis. Couldn’t he have found a substitute for the governess, or couldn’t JKO have looked after her own children for one horseback riding weekend? Pathetic wealth and entitlement.
She shows us the best and the worst of Jacqueline Kennedy, and presents the image historians will value…firsthand and authentic.
My only complaint about this memoir is that we learn the author’s age early on in her story, and yet it is narrated by a young girl . Loved her lilting Irish accent, but knew her to be at least 75 years old at the time of the writing. The narrator should have sounded a lot more mature to be telling this story.
I hated this book to end and I grieve for the multiple losses of the author. I thank her for sharing her story, and for the quality of her writing.

Disappointing!
Revisado: 03-03-21
I think I identified with the powerful characters she played, more than I should have. Even her childish, self pitying voice left me cold. She is clearly a talented performer, but sadly, who wants to go that deep into her trauma/drama life, true that it may be ? I’m sorry she was abused as a child, and had a mother who colluded in the disgrace, but why tell the world about it? In a book? Too much DRAMA…she’s chosen the right profession. Shes had an interesting life, tell us about that.

Reissued for the 20th anniversary of Diana's death, this sensational best seller is an explosive account of her life, from the man who was by her side throughout its most turbulent period. In 1981 Lady Diana Spencer was seen by many as a lifeline for the outdated Windsor line. But Diana didn't follow the script. Instead she brought a revolution. Well Done!
Revisado: 01-24-21
Could not put this down. One of the rare occasions when the author narrates, and it couldn’t have been better-done by a professional. Jephson’s nuanced account of the Famous Princess, takes you inside the Palace walls and straight into the inner workings of day-to-day life of Diana, Princess of Wales. The author takes a long hard look her, and reveals her compassion for others, and alternately, her desperate need for attention. More importantly, he takes us straight into her life, as if he were reading her journal, and he it’s a journal he often scripted for her. Until she goes off on her own self-destructive path, and he finally walks away.
I wish he had been hired by Megan and Harry, and could write that story...

Historia
In 2017, a routine network television investigation led to a story only whispered about: one of Hollywood’s most powerful producers was a predator, protected by fear, wealth, and a conspiracy of silence. As Farrow drew closer to the truth, shadowy operatives, from high-priced lawyers to elite war-hardened spies, mounted a secret campaign of intimidation, threatening his career, following his every move, and weaponizing an account of abuse in his own family.

Seriously Bad
Revisado: 10-21-19
Thought I had heard enough about this book to find it enjoyable, but found the narration so distracting I could hardly follow the content. Ridiculous accents used by the author were frequent and more than annoying, but what’s worse, it detracts from one’s ability to respect what he’s written. I’d suggest that he stick to writing, and leave the “acting” to his very capable mother. Hire a professional! Please!

Terrible book, unless you like network tv afternoon soap operas. Could have been a good story about an interesting woman, who lived in interesting times, surrounded by interesting people. Instead, we are given a silly little old woman, recounting a silly little life. It comes as no surprise Eleanor Roosevelt disliked the woman who is characterized in this novel. She had good sense.
