This is the best coverage of the case of the Yuba County 5 to date. Part audio drama, part narration and part archival recordings. Love it.

This is your standard book defending the revisionist history of the Federal Reserve Bank as a conspiracy against the American people. Unlike the massive CREATURE FROM JEKYLL ISLAND, this book has the virtue of being short enough to finish in one week. The listener will learn - sorry, be told lies about the First Bank of the United States and the so-called controversy between Jefferson and "the money power" (chap. 2), Andrew Jackson, 'the last anti-elitist president" (chap 3), the "socialist manifesto" of Teddy Roosevelt (chap. 4), Marx's manifest (chap. 5), Abraham Lincoln, the "last president to fight the money power" (chap. 6), before one is presented with any relevant account of the events immediately leading up to the events of the 1913 Federal Reserve Act. While it may be interesting to some to hear just what conspiracy theorists believe, there is not enough evidence presented in this volume to justify the book's thesis.

Thought Provoking Conversation about Social Media

Just what I expected. Lanier gives ten arguments for why everyone should delete his social media account right now. Of course, he prefaces his arguments at the beginning by stating that these are not arguments specifically for deleting your social media accounts, but rather about rethinking how one uses them in his personal and professional personas.

I thought the first few arguments were great. I could stand a criticism of our current political leaders here and there. (Just because I disagree with someone's politics doesn't mean I must condemn their writings!) However, I consider the last four arguments rather weak. I stopped listening at argument nine, which seems to be based on a revisionist view of current events.

Overall, Lanier has presented us technophiles with a thought-provoking book. I don't expect us all to agree on the details of his arguments (or his conclusions for that matter), but I do believe this will give us something to discuss over coffee.

I thought this would be an article on Schumpeter's heritage. Instead it is a reading of the introductory article to the January/February 2015 of Foreign Affairs. Good performance, but a disappointing listen.

Dry Dissertation, Bad Audio Narration

Revisado: 10-21-18

I will admit from the outset that only a few people are interested in this book. It is a published version of the author's dissertation, so it is dry and boring from the outset. While I appreciate Audible's effort in bringing a well-respected book on the thought of H. Dooyeweerd to its listeners, Kalsbeek's Contours or the various works of J.M. Spier would have been a better choice.

The audio narration makes it all the worse. The author clearly does not know how to speak with a Dutch accent, as she consistently mispronounces Dutch terms and names. She also (unnecessarily) reads paragraph numbers and footnote numbers, which distracts from the author's main points.

Great Intro to History of Economic Thought

Skousen's aim in this book is simple: chart the main developments in economic science from the work of Adam Smith through the underworld of Marx's communism to the macroeconomics of Keynes and his critics. After discussing the relevance of Adam Smith's contribution (chapter 1), he discusses the "rise and fall of classical economics" (chapter 2) before introducing the economics of Karl Marx (chapter 3). Chapter 4 discusses the rise of "scientific" economics (i.e. its mathematization and the influence of historicism) followed by the contribution of Keynes (chapter 5) and his critics (chapter 6).

Overall, this is a very good introduction to the history and development of economic science. The only fault I find with the text is that it does not discuss the pre-Smithian contributions of the late Scholastics, which were fundamental to later developments. But perhaps that is a bit too much to ask for a popular introductory text.

Jeff Riggenbach delivers an excellent performance.
