Historia
Trauma is a fact of life. Veterans and their families deal with the painful aftermath of combat; one in five Americans has been molested; one in four grew up with alcoholics; one in three couples have engaged in physical violence. Dr. Bessel van der Kolk, one of the world’s foremost experts on trauma, has spent more than three decades working with survivors. In The Body Keeps the Score, he uses recent scientific advances to show how trauma literally reshapes both body and brain, compromising sufferers’ capacities for pleasure, engagement, self-control, and trust.

A fascinating read on trauma and recovery plus more
Revisado: 12-28-23
I discovered this book from a friend who is still reading it; the book’s title stood out to me and so I downloaded it and couldn’t stop listening.
This book has really taught me so much on the multitudes of trauma; that children and adolescents should be better protected and valued in our society and that again- we never truly know what sort of life some people live or experienced.
I found the book to be extremely humbling and it’s making me think three times on interacting or navigating interactions with people in general (not in a bad way but just to be more mindful & considerate).

Entertaining yet so real
Revisado: 10-09-23
I listened to this book because of the catchy yet so ominous title. I enjoyed it and agree that it is a slow but if you go along with it, it might captivate you at its relevance. I am currently the only black person let alone the only black woman at my current career-job so listening to this book really hit home a little to closely😅😅. Now, I’ve got my eyes and ears open for when they hire another black girl, lol:

From everyday apps to complex algorithms, Ruha Benjamin cuts through tech-industry hype to understand how emerging technologies can reinforce white supremacy and deepen social inequity. Benjamin argues that automation, far from being a sinister story of racist programmers scheming on the dark web, has the potential to hide, speed up, and deepen discrimination while appearing neutral and even benevolent when compared to the racism of a previous era.

This book is another great addition to my growing collection on anti-racist and technology books as they pertain to black folks, women and POC.

I’ve heard of this book via her Killer Psyche podcast… I wanted to know more about life as a special agent and I got that plus more! It’s fascinating to listen to her accounts of marriage, being a single mother, a heroine, a nurse by day and bada** by night! Lol, they need to make a film or 2 about her!

An honest book about the process of life
Revisado: 12-05-22
I read this book because it was on a list of books to read before you die…
It’s honest, straight to the point and filled with various real life scenarios and tragedies.
Life has moments where everything is going well and just as suddenly can have moments when everything seems upside down but as this book illustrates you just have to keep pushing forward and maybe just maybe overtime it will all calm down and make sense…

In 1967, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., isolated himself from the demands of the civil rights movement, rented a house in Jamaica with no telephone, and labored over his final manuscript. In this prophetic work, which was unavailable for more than 10 years, he lays out his thoughts, plans, and dreams for America's future, including the need for better jobs, higher wages, decent housing, and quality education. With a universal message of hope that continues to resonate, King demanded an end to global suffering.

Another timeless, riveting title by the late MLK
Revisado: 07-07-22
I always find MLK’s book intriguing, timeless and heartfelt. Where do we go from Here continues with his legacy of fighting for equality for everyone and continues to resonate with millions of people around the world.
It’s another must read for those who are asking those “tough questions” about the US’s / the worlds various inequalities (ie poverty, discrimination, caste, racism)

I enjoyed listening to Sis, don’t settle… after I saw Faith’s interview on YouTube… she made compelling arguments about why dating is important plus other elements such as knowing who are you and what you like before dating.
I bought the book to further equipo myself with the proper tools and the proper mindset to focus on attractive my equal. The chapters are easily to and practical and full of witty stories that makes this book super memorable!
I have nothing bad to say about it! It’s a great tool!

I found this book because I’m curious about the cyber world. Saw it on a couple of sites and gave it a listen.
He makes some very interesting points such as if it’s free there is a reason…
Encrypt everything.: Don’t use autocorrect or save my pw, etc.
Useful to some extent but also troublesome in other aspects but I will not digress. The book is interesting especially since it was written by an ex-con.

A coworker recommended me to read this book. I’d seen it’s name in other places as well. I finally read it and was incredibly moved by a lot of the arguments, telling statistics, and related/different POV on various topics.
It’s a classic read for sure right besides The New Jim Crow, Souls of Black Folks, amongst many brilliant African American/ African Diaspora classics.
