Historia
It’s the mid-'90s. Grunge and flannel are fading as the Spice Girls and Hot Topic conquer the malls. Cherry gloss glistens on the lips of the youth. Modems hiss as America comes online. And in a fog-drenched cove at the edge of New England, something terrible awakens when a fisherman reels in a gruesome catch: the remains of a young woman. Remains still pulsing with furious life.

left me cold
Revisado: 04-23-23
Lots of ewww, not much plot, predictable end. Not bad, but not really that good, either, and the "explanation" for the events broke all my suspension of disbelief.

Historia
"Mom seems off." Her brother's words echo in Sam Montgomery's ear as she turns onto the quiet North Carolina street where their mother lives alone. She brushes the thought away as she climbs the front steps. Sam's excited for this rare extended visit, and looking forward to nights with just the two of them, drinking boxed wine, watching murder mystery shows, and guessing who the killer is long before the characters figure it out. But stepping inside, she quickly realizes home isn’t what it used to be.

Funny at moments, definitely creepy at others, and with T. Kingfisher's trademark with and charm. The narration is excellent as well. Highly enjoyable.

Beautiful and Heartening
Revisado: 09-22-17
Some book you read to stretch your intellect, and some you read to expand your heart. This novel falls in the latter category. The Wind in His Heart is a balm to the soul. This is a story about kindness, about freedom, and about the mysterious forces that move the world. The characters are well-drawn and so real you'd like to buy them a cup of coffee, or maybe sit around a campfire and listen while they play some tunes in the desert night. The plot moves along at a gentle, easy pace, neither too fast nor too slow, with plenty of action to keep the pages moving. The narration is spot-on; Tom Stechschulte's voice has gravel and grit, so fitting for a story that takes place mostly in a desert, and he voices the different accents of the characters well. Altogether, a beautiful story that I can't recommend highly enough.
