I slipped effortlessly into this world as if it were always there waiting for me. Following Kai through lessons in wisdom and skill, the story winds in and through many scenarios of political and philosophical intrigue as well as the questionable benefits of divine interference and prophacy. This is definitely one of the most enjoyable and fulfilling books I have read. Not surprised it came from the talented mind of Jaqueline Carey.

Lately, most of the sci-fi written is so utterly predictable, I can barely ho-hum thru it. This book had me hooked the 1st 15 minutes and kept rolling with fast paced, beautifully choreographed action, occasionally hilarious dialog and brand new tech to keep the interest fires high!

First of all, the narrator rocked! If not for that, I would have quit this book less than half way. Long laborious details about running a drinking establishment and personal. Very little meat to this story. The Antagonist starts out methodical, precise, and thorough. Ends being a weak, whiney slob with with no plan but "it's no fair!". I can hardly believe it was written by Nora Roberts. Maybe a ghost writer?

This lighthearted yarn is sure to please space-loving kids and adults alike. A must listen for family audio with T Rex dino-tigers mixed right in. Loved it!

LMAO listening to the narrator pronounce authors name "Hineline" but all in all , he did a great job transporting me into the belly of a starship where time and mutiny turns life into a strange arena.

Not surprising the author was awarded the Science Fiction Grand Master Award for this book, The Zero Stone and the included sequel, Uncharted Stars. A mysterious stone, born of worlds long extinct, is the key to unimaginable powers is the quest of Murdoc Jern and his mutant feline companion, Eet. They are hunted throughout space when Murdoc comes into possession of a magnificent gem. Uncharted Stars wraps up the grand finale in the most satisfying of ways.
This would be a definite 5 star rating except for the narrator's choice of a grating falsetto for Eet's character. It is jolting and pulls the reader out of the book.

Book 1 - 4 of the Diadem Series knocked it out of the park. Book 5, Starhunter, was ho-hum at it's best and mindnumbingly dry at it's worst. Having so many characters perspectives and backgrounds explained in unnecessary detail was aggravating. Waiting for those loose ends to be brought together was anticlimactic as they had no specific meaning to give the ending closure or understanding. This book just meandered circularly and ended where one or two good chapters should have taken it. So many authors are guilty of this. They spend time, sometimes years, on storyline, character development, etc and when the publisher says great, write some more, they rush to make deadlines. Stuffing great characters full of sawdust to fill the necessary pages. I liked this series so much, I purchased the book versions of the saga. Fore-warning, the next two books The Nowhere Hunt and Ghost Hunt are a little better than Starhunters but not by much. Just why the author chose such a choppy style, jumping from extremely minor characters, felt like empty stuffing. The last two (which I hope to see in audiobook) The Snares of Ibex and Questers Endgame smooth out most of the choppiness and get back to the richer style of storytelling and are almost as good as the first four in writing while wonderfully satisfying as an end to a really good series.

This series will hook you in for certain! Maeve is certainly one of the best books in the series as we get to learn more about the mysterious "souls" who are trapped in the diadem permanently affixed to Aleytis' head. Yellow-eyed, magical Harskari, purple-eyed musician, Shadith and Swardheld, soldier and martial Arts expert. All attempt to help Aleytis stop the world she's on from being nuked from space to stop a parasitic life form from absorbing every living being to spore more of its self. Couldn't put it down!

After reading The Diadem and Lamarchos (book 1 & 2) I thought, for sure) the author would wind down and start cranking out words just to make money, but, I have to (happily) say she has put out one book after another that is impossible to put down! Aleytis finds herself sold on the auction block to an insect species who intend to use her as a vessel to hold the queen egg until it matures and eats it's way out of the host. They hold her using a psi-damper, making it impossible for her to use her mind powers. Using mind games instead of mind powers, she attempts to align herself favorably to plan an escape and is thwarted in the attempt...

Loving the Bobiverse, as do so many, I was prepared to like anything Mr. Taylor would come up with. Sadly, I can't manage to choke down this dry, meatless portion and give it any kind of thumbs up. The narrator, although not our beloved Mr. Porter, does a very credible job with his pace and characters.
