One of the most overrated books on audible.

It just rushes through everything. A city falls, but it only talks about the captain in the room bargaining to not go out. The company has to drive back a band of rebels from a wall (covered in a few sentences). one of the enemies main fortresses was taken (this one got a couple paragraphs I think.)

it does have nice banter and colloquialisms and its an interresting world but someone needs to expalin to this author how to write stories.

you cant just skip over the main story events every single time.

just coming off of defiance of the fall, the best litrpg of all time...

then coming to this,

they need to mark some of this crap as childrens novels. just because its a litrpg doesnt mean its a childrens book.

the narration is really cringe. the story is really cringe. the ideas in the story are unrealistic. the story barely has enough structure to maintain cohesion, but is riddled by plot holes.

3 quintillion credits for a single crystal (at tier 15) (im not kidding). yet the main character is working for 400 credits per month. Just this set of paired facts shows the author doesnt have a single brain cell...

then theres tiered planets, but everyone starts out as tier 1. this might make sense, but theres supposedly a tier 35 planet with a major civilization. Yet, tier 5 people are supposed to be strong. the author has no sense of power scaling.

also the author just uses unimaginative tiers for his levels. which is annoying. this book kind of shows why we need publishers.

this author lacks the common sense needed for writing a litrpg, and the book shouldnt be on audible. its too terrible.

unless it gets better, which i doubt.

I really question the sanity of people leaving 5 stae reciews on this. i wish i could just filter everyone out who left a 5 star review and never see any of their reviews again because they clearly have terrible taste or are trolling.

this book is just so boring. the story just never gets going. its just following people doing random things in town or getting tortured. it just never comes together and progresses in a meaningful way. its just an assortment of random story threads, and i made it over halfway waiting for it to form, but it never happens. getting a refund if possible.

also tim gerard reynolds who is ussually the best narrator is only good here.

This is the most generic litrpg you can ever think of. it has shallow characters, shallow & arbitrary mechanics, etc.

if you read this and are thinking about writing a litrpg, this book is inspiring because you couldnt write one that's any worse than this.

for narration, this is the weakest soundbooth audio performance i have ever heard... andrea parsneau has to work on not sounding like a clueless airhead. idk if i still think soundbooth is 'the best' if she performs like that. instead its just 'good'.

the story writer just keeps adding tons of fluff that doesnt matter so they can sell more books. ill put up with it but im leaving a 1 star review every time they do this.

it just has a bunch of friendly training duels, nothing happens, would have been okay if the last half of the book had been condensed into a couple pages but it wastes so much time

im 2 hours in and its already got WAY more content than the last book had. no more silly romance, no more filler fluff and slogging through irrelevent interpersonal events.

the previous entry in the series was hours of boredom, but this is a great read. after reading negative reviews from people that thought the last book was good (wtf??) and that this book had 'nothing happening' i narrowly decided to give this book a chance, and im glad i did.

let the people idolizing interpersonal stuff go read some harlequin romance, and stay away from my litrpgs, tyvm. i hope the series continues to move ahead with the plot and that there is nothing like the last book ever again.

the people that say nothing happens and you can skip to the end make me wonder if they were mistakenly reviewing the last book instead of this one, causs youd have to be some of the DUMBEST book reviewers of all time to have that opinion on this one.
