Historia
Twenty years after ruling the halls of her suburban Chicago high school, Lissy Ryder doesn't understand why her glory days ended. Back then, she was worshipped...beloved...feared. Present day, not so much. She's been pink-slipped from her high-paying job, dumped by her husband and kicked out of her condo. Now, at 37, she's struggling to start a business out of her parents' garage and sleeping under the hair-band posters in her old bedroom. Lissy finally realizes karma is the only bitch bigger than she was.

I had to make it through the early part - a main character I could despise, then learn to love. It is a good story and Jen is humorous as always. thanks for making me laugh.

Historia
A dazzling tour of the universe as Einstein saw it. How did Albert Einstein come up with the theories that changed the way we look at the world? By thinking in pictures. Michio Kaku, leading theoretical physicist (a cofounder of string theory) and best-selling science storyteller, shows how Einstein used seemingly simple images to lead a revolution in science. With originality and expertise, Kaku uncovers the surprising beauty that lies at the heart of Einstein's cosmos

Mix of science and the man
Revisado: 11-03-13
I'm still not sure I understand all the science, but it was a good mixture of the science and the struggles faced as each scientist tried to build a support for his research. Einstein was truly a marvel - 50 years ahead of what we could test in the lab. Brilliant beyond belief. I took theory of relativity and quantum theory in college - love the fact he had pictures he referenced. I like the insights into the various personalities, competing theories and politics that played into it. thanks for a good suggestion and helping to keep my commute something much more than a boring ride.

Historia
Why we think it’s a great listen: Seabiscuit was a runaway success, and Hillenbrand’s done it again with another true-life account about beating unbelievable odds. On a May afternoon in 1943, an Army Air Forces bomber crashed into the Pacific Ocean and disappeared, leaving only a spray of debris and a slick of oil, gasoline, and blood. Then, on the ocean surface, a face appeared....

A story of how badly people can be to each other
Revisado: 09-21-13
What disappointed you about Unbroken?
The title is misleading and little about running in it. I empathize with the people in the story, horrible beyond my imagination what was done to them.
Has Unbroken turned you off from other books in this genre?
no
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Edward Herrmann?
no idea
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Unbroken?
too long
Any additional comments?
it did inspire me to know that nothing I have faced comes close to what they survived. my life, my running, no matter how hard pales - the human spirit can be so very strong - that inspires..

Interesting and provides some historical insights
Revisado: 03-30-13
Is there anything you would change about this book?
Gives you insights into what British settlers experienced, some humor, some sad, good description of dynamics of mother/daughter and siblings. Is the Mother stable? Yet we all have someone like this and move through life. Pace is a bit slow, but good for long runs.
Would you recommend Cocktail Hour Under the Tree of Forgetfulness to your friends? Why or why not?
To pass the time, doesn't grab you but does entertain you.
Which scene was your favorite?
Discovering the tree, talking on the veranda
Could you see Cocktail Hour Under the Tree of Forgetfulness being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
Maybe a movie, definitely Meryl Streep, maybe Judy Dench both have the underlying "iron" with a shade of crazy in some of their performances.

Historia
Five days ago a rash of bizarre murders swept the country. Senseless. Brutal. Seemingly unconnected. A cop walked into a nursing home and unloaded his weapons on elderly and staff alike. A mass of school shootings. Prison riots of unprecedented brutality. Mind-boggling acts of violence in every state. Four Days Ago the murders increased ten-fold. Three days ago the President addressed the nation and begged for calm and peace. Two days ago the killers began to mobilize. Yesterday all the power went out. Tonight....

Reminds me of old James Bonds Movie
Revisado: 03-11-13
Would you try another book from Blake Crouch and/or Phil Gigante?
No
What could Blake Crouch have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
Stating the obvious too frequently is boring. the female lead screeches at her husband "watch out for.." about 50 times in the first several chapters. "I see it" is his reply. She reminded me of one of the James Bond girls who always yelled "James, James..." as he saved her.
Would you be willing to try another one of Phil Gigante’s performances?
maybe
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
Passing the time on long runs, but I can only take so much, then switch to Pandora or something else.
Any additional comments?
I'm not finished with the book, hopefully it improves. I'm very patient.
