Tina Fey is a celebrity trying to please network bosses, relatives in Youngstown and a demanding toddler. Her story is a window into TV land and the life of an ambitious talent somehow propelled by self-doubt. But more than that, as someone who likes (and sometimes needs) a little push to be more of a bossy pants, I appreciated her directions on how to make it work. Improv, she tells us, is all about saying, "Yes," and then reacting. Since life is indeed an improv, I very much enjoyed lending her my ear. Her reading was ironic, empathetic and her timing brilliant. Loved it.

This book had me from the first paragraph. After a tsunami wipes out their home and family, two young girls are sucked into the underworld of human trafficking. The insights into how this world operates is gripping as are their stories. I chose this book because I am a fan of this narrator, and she did not disappoint, again speaking in Hindi, Russian, French, American, and Ukranian accents as she protrayed the different characters in this tale of darkness. I suspect the author may have been imagining himself as the hero of this tale, and I accept that. I think it was well-research, well-presented fiction, and I enjoyed it very much, one day walking an extra three miles while listening because I couldn't turn it off.

Four college friends, revolutionaries, mature on different paths and are brought back together when one is faced with a fatal illness. Written from alternating points of view, the book poetically weaves their individual stories with images of a changing India. It is brilliant. And the performance is suberb, as the narrator slips seamlessly between voices and accents.

Would you try another book from Jenny Lawson and/or Jenny Lawson?

Not a chance. It is just a string of trendy phrases and weak ho hum moments (as opposed to ah ha moments). I might have been amused for the length of a blog, but an entire book?

What was most disappointing about Jenny Lawson’s story?

Lack of insight. Lack of true humor.

What aspect of Jenny Lawson’s performance would you have changed?

The story.

Do you think Let's Pretend This Never Happened (A Mostly True Memoir) needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

Hardly.

Any additional comments?

Nope.
