Historia
One by one, the deaths pile up in the village of Castillac. Seven deaths in a matter of weeks. Seven. The villagers are--understandably--worried. Then anxious. Finally, scared out of their wits. Yet expat Molly Sutton, who has proven herself to be the best murderer-catcher around, is distracted by other matters. She's simply not interested.

Where are my beloved characters?
Revisado: 11-12-24
Nell Godin, I love your books. Please keep writing them but please, PLEASE stick to writing and not narrating. I feel as these characters went from glorious color to boring black and white. The narration was so jarring and awful that I had to stop listening to the book. Can you please redo with the usual narrator?

Historia
Passing meets The House of Mirth in this "utterly captivating" (Kathleen Grissom, New York Times best-selling author of The Kitchen House) historical novel based on the true story of Anita Hemmings, the first black student to attend Vassar, who successfully passed as white - until she let herself grow too attached to the wrong person.

Great book, terrible narrator
Revisado: 10-25-18
I'm really enjoying this book, which brings us into an usual world of late 19th century race relations, introducing us to characters who are dealing with issues not too dissimilar to those we struggle with today (alas). However, the narrator is horrible. She is robotic, stilted, and often doesn't seem to know what she's saying. Her cadence is off, and I find myself constantly having to translate what she's saying into more human language and affect. I recommend the book, but not the stilted performance of this narrator.

Great read and funny!
Revisado: 04-05-16
If you could sum up Flat Spin in three words, what would they be?
Funny. Sexy. Interesting.
What did you like best about this story?
I love the character of Cordell Logan, who is brought to life so wonderfully by Ray Porter. Wow! I can't remember the last time I laughed out loud while listening to a book, and I laughed a bunch of times while listening to this book. I also thought the murder mystery was done very well; there were some great unexpected twists. Loved this book.
Have you listened to any of Ray Porter’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No, but I can't wait to listen to the next one.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Yes, I laughed aloud several times - it's that funny.
Any additional comments?
Please keep writing these books, David Freed, and thank you to Ray Porter for bringing Logan to life so beautifully.

Historia
The irresistible David Freed’s first mystery is a stay-up-late-to-finish thriller. Based in sunny Rancho Bonita - “California’s Monaco”, as the city’s moneyed minions like to call it - Cordell Logan is a literate, sardonic flight instructor and aspiring Buddhist with dwindling savings and a shadowy past. When his beautiful ex-wife, Savannah, shows up out of the blue to tell him that her husband has been murdered in Los Angeles, Logan is quietly pleased. Savannah’s late husband, after all, is Arlo Echevarria, the man she left Logan for.
