North and south Europe struggling again...
Revisado: 07-01-19
It is fascinating to learn the sequel of the Roman empire era north and south Europe struggle, and the prequel to the present rivalry.
There are a few parts that I've found less interesting (as in the other volumes of this series). However, all in all, it is great.

Historia
The fourth volume in Will Durant's Pulitzer Prize-winning series, The Age of Faith surveys the medieval achievements and modern significance of Christian, Islamic, and Judaic life and culture. Like the other volumes in the Story of Civilization series, this is a self-contained work, which at the same time fits into a comprehensive history of mankind. It includes the dramatic stories of St. Augustine, Hypatia, Justinian, Mohammed, Harun al-Rashid, Charlemagne, William the Conqueror, and many more.

Give me more history
Revisado: 03-03-19
This is another good book in the series. Like in the other books in the series, It has sections that are less interesting for me. Such as on art and cathedrals. Because listening is easier than reading, it is possible to pass these sections without too much difficulty. To my surprise, after listening for quite some time about cathedrals, I now wouldn't mind going on a trip to visit cathedrals...

Historia
Alexander von Humboldt (1769-1859) was an intrepid explorer and the most famous scientist of his age. His restless life was packed with adventure and discovery, whether climbing the highest volcanoes in the world or racing through anthrax-infested Siberia. He came up with a radical vision of nature, that it was a complex and interconnected global force and did not exist for man's use alone. Ironically, his ideas have become so accepted and widespread that he has been nearly forgotten.

An amazing story of an amazing man
Revisado: 12-30-18
The discoveries of Humboldt and his peers 150-200 years ago are being rediscovered by scientists again today. Astounding.

Historia
Is the world really falling apart? Is the ideal of progress obsolete? In this elegant assessment of the human condition in the third millennium, cognitive scientist and public intellectual Steven Pinker urges us to step back from the gory headlines and prophecies of doom, which play to our psychological biases. Instead, follow the data: Pinker shows that life, health, prosperity, safety, peace, knowledge, and happiness are on the rise, not just in the West but worldwide.

Historia
Here Durant tells the whole story of Greece from the days of Crete's vast Aegean empire to the final extirpation of the last remnants of Greek liberty, crushed under the heel of an implacably forward-marching Rome. The dry minutiae of battles and sieges, of tortuous statecraft of tyrant and king, get minor emphasis in what is preeminently a vivid recreation of Greek culture, brought to the listener through the medium of supple, vigorous prose.

Historia
How can we make intelligent decisions about our increasingly technology-driven lives if we don’t understand the difference between the myths of pseudoscience and the testable hypotheses of science? Pulitzer Prize-winning author and distinguished astronomer Carl Sagan argues that scientific thinking is critical not only to the pursuit of truth but to the very well-being of our democratic institutions.

Revisado: 08-10-18
An important book that clearly demonstrates why is belief in conspiracy theories and para-normal" activity are wrong (until proven otherwise). It shows how to be sceptic to ideas but at the same time open to new ones It shows why the scientific method is the best way we have today to improve our lives and our world.

Mega history book.
Revisado: 07-06-18
Even though it's an 80 years old history book, it is still fascinating, and thought me a lot. The author is modern, liberal, forsighted, and humble. The narrator is tired and dull, and I had to get accustomed to him for a few hours. I'm sure more than one did not finish this volume because of that. For such a long and difficult book, you must have a fascinating narrator!

Historia
For well over 2,000 years, much of our fundamental "desire to know" has focused on science. Our commitment to science and technology has been so profound that these stand as probably the most powerful influences on human culture. To truly understand our Western heritage, our contemporary society, and ourselves as individuals, we need to know what science is and how it developed. In this 36-lecture series, one of science's most acclaimed teachers takes you through science's complex evolution of thought and discovery.

Interesting
Revisado: 01-23-18
An interesting course. It's very nice to learn the context of many scientific discoveries. I appreciate the fact that the lecturer explains the background of the discoveries- and not only jumping from one to another. I also acknowledge the central role of various religions in preserving and improving scientific knowledge. However, the lecturer seems to ignore religious persecution of science and knowledge- such as the Cristiano abolishment of the academies in Byzantion and the consequential Greek philosophers flight to the muslim empire. He also does not mention that the first university was founded by a Muslim women in Marroco, centuries before any European university. Although religions contributed to scientific discoveries, once they understand the peril of scientific discoveries to their exsistance, they have started fighting science ferociously.

Faced with the ceaseless stream of news about war, crime, and terrorism, one could easily think we live in the most violent age ever seen. Yet as New York Times bestselling author Steven Pinker shows in this startling and engaging new work, just the opposite is true: violence has been diminishing for millennia and we may be living in the most peaceful time in our species's existence.
