Historia
My village is aflame, and a deadly legend becomes my captor. I’m to appear before the most elite faction of mercenaries and warlords, commanded to answer for a crime they refuse to explain. Even if my only guess for why they want me is wrong, they cannot have me. I’ve sworn to never return to Skull’s Row, home to thieves and killers; the graveyard of my childhood.

Not really a fantasy…

More like a mafia style “romance” that shouldn’t even be romance but here we are. Not sure why it’s being compared to pirates because nobody steps within 5 feet of water or a boat. The magic seems like it was thrown in last minute to reach a wider audience after the book was already written. Not for me.

I just can’t finish this. I purchased this title in November and have picked it back up multiple times to still end in DNF. It’s very simplistic but then goes into details about menial things and tasks our FC does while being simplistic in everything that counts. 🤦♀️
This makes the story convoluted and confusing. Especially if you struggled with mental issues like ADD. And the shrilly narration that doesn’t understand volume control doesn’t help the slightest. That confusion leads to frustration and over what? This book is not something to ruin your day to. So I write this in hopes my negative review will stay (it won’t) to save me the headache of picking it back up again in a few months.🙄🙄🫠

Historia
Queen Saskia is the wicked sorceress everyone fears. After successfully wrestling the throne from her evil uncle, she only wants one thing: to keep her people safe from the empire next door. For that, she needs to spend more time in her laboratory experimenting with her spells. She definitely doesn’t have time to bring order to her chaotic library of magic. When a mysterious dark wizard arrives at her castle, Saskia hires him as her new librarian on the spot. “Fabian” is sweet and a little nerdy, and his requests seem a little strange.

Wasted potential

The idea behind the story was something to get lost to. However the writing was terrible. The story probably would’ve flourished with a different writer. The dialog was made me DNF. It just rang as disingenuous, flat, and not how real people talk. It was trying too hard to be something it could not pull off.

Historia
My name is Chrys, and I rescue souls from Hell. My life is demons, ghosts, and driving my van through the streets of Reno like a racer on crack. My coworkers think I’m a monster, my partner reaps the dead, and valkyries want to gut me. Even worse, the dragon shifter inside me wants to gobble up human souls like they’re Tic Tacs.

An ok book, nothing really special. It’s a story you’ve read a thousand times with the same FC. Wish there was a bit more spice or even adult content but this is sadly more young adult than new adult. There is no spice or romance really. But it got the job done in my 186 day book rut.
