Wow. I forgot how much better these earlier books are. The plots are just developed with more depth and lack the plot holes that I come across in some of the newer ones. Also, these characters are written true to the show! 🙌🏽 💃🏽😃

Faith Newberry's dream job may be morphing into a nightmare. Newly hired as the librarian at the upscale and pet-friendly Castleton Manor literary retreat, Faith sees her move from Boston to the quaint Cape Cod village of Lighthouse Bay, Massachusetts, as a boon. But things turn ugly when she discovers that the first edition book by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle proudly displayed in the library - also his first in the Sherlock Holmes series - is a counterfeit, and not a very good one at that. Who could have absconded with the real volume?

Awww... What a great cozy read! This cat... My favorite. 🙌🏽😂 The mystery was well fleshed out and I like how skeptical the FMC was. Very refreshing in a mystery! Like who cares if he's hot. He could be a murderer! 😆
I like the setting. Very different. No bakery owner here! 😄
Onto the next one!

I really enjoyed this cozy mystery! I wasn't sure what to expect but the amount of common sense exhibited floored me!! 😂
Not characters making smart moves in a mystery. 😂 Yes, there were some cheesy moments, but I loved how much overall sense these characters had. I'm hooked!
As for the mystery, it was very interesting! I loved the cold case element. But the end, I pretty much had it figured out but still enjoyed watching everything unfold. 🙌🏽 💙💙
Shout out to the hilarious pig and budding romance. On to the next book! 🙌🏽 😍😍

Historia
It's 1910, and Daniel Pitt is a reluctant lawyer who would prefer to follow in the footsteps of his detective father. When the biographer Russell Graves, who Daniel is helping defend, is sentenced to execution for the murder of his wife, Daniel's Pitt-family investigative instincts kick in, and he sets out to find the real killer. With only 21 days before Graves is to be executed, Daniel learns that Graves is writing a biography of Victor Narraway, the former head of Special Branch and a close friend of the Pitts. And the stories don't shed a positive light. Is it possible someone is framing Graves to keep him from writing the biography-maybe even someone Daniel knows in Special Branch? The only answer, it seems, lies in the dead woman's corpse.

👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 Bravo!! What a great start to a series. Watch out folks, I'm hooked and settling in. 🪝
Let's see... This book was well written, had great plot twisted, and I felt like I really connected with the characters. Some I disliked and others were awesome! I wasn't always sure where the book was going to take me as well. So, definitely good job with that. 💪🏽
Daniel was like an1910 Perry Mason! And I'm 1,000% here for it. 🙌🏽 🙌🏽 He's got compassion and is a great lawyer. But not just that. He's good at detecting. 🔍
Can't wait for book 2.

The scene in the West Village studio appears to be classic crime-of-passion: two wineglasses by the bed, music playing, and a young sculptor named Ariel Byrd with the back of her head bashed in. But when Dallas tracks down the wealthy Upper East Side woman who called 911, the details don’t add up. Gwen Huffman is wealthy, elegant, comforted by her handsome fiancé as she sheds tears over the trauma of finding the body - but why did it take an hour to report it? And why is she lying about little things?

Wow! Just wow... I feel like I need some chocolate after hearing what those crazy people had to say. Smh.... 🤦🏽♀️
But as usual, this was another great book in this series. I laughed, rolled my eyes, and waited in anticipation for the bad guys to get what was coming.
Robb always makes ya feel like the bad will never end in these books. Lol But then it does and all is right in the world again! 🙌🏽

Revisado: 01-17-24
😂😂😂 The final line of the book was gold!! 😂
Too funny. Man, I loved this book. Soooo good. And just when I thought my questions were insignificant to the plot, the author comes in clutch with answers. 🙌🏽🙌🏽
Loved Penny. And loved her character more as her depth was revealed. The Duke was a man of so much more depth than was expected. Awesome H and too see how he faced his struggles head on... 😍😍😍
I realized early on that I skipped a book in this series not realizing this was a series. Going back to listen to book 2 while awaiting book 4. 🙌🏽🙌🏽
Highly recommend if you want, depth, humor, love, spice, and great characters.

Treating an attack survivor like this is UNACCEPTABLE
Revisado: 12-26-23
2.5 ⭐
Burton is a solid story teller, but that doesn't fix horrible characters. 🙅🏽♀️🙅🏽♀️ The H was the absolute WORST!! The way he treated a rape survivor for most of the book makes me sick. 🤮
The h was not all that and a bag of chips. I have no idea why the author made her so such obviously unwise things while having the h say over and over and OVER again how she's got it. 🙄🙄
The dog was great! The teen, Dani, was great. That's it! No type of storytelling can undue most of the characters bullying or emotionally abusing the h who was a a brutal rape survivor. ❌❌

Fell short and female narrator wasn't a great fit
Revisado: 12-18-23
The premise of the book was really, but the execution didn't deliver so much. First off, there should have been trigger warnings for the graphic nature of the topics covered.
For the length of the book, the early part took up too much of the book. I wished the author had invested more into the actual romance. 🤦🏽♀️
The characters took a very long time to start to like. I'm not sure if I much care about most of them by the end except for the old man. He's authentic and great.
The H is sooo bitter his dialog at times is over the top at times and weird at other times. Just felt like the dialog was trying too hard. 😬
The h was a strong woman most of the time but then the complete opposite would rear up and throw you off. So, I just felt frustrated or annoyed when the h didn't meet up to the image painted in the earlier part of the book. 😒
As for the mystery, it was solid but all the main characters openly discussing their suspicions in the same space as the potential bad guy???? Repeatedly??? 🙄🙄

Awww... love it! So cute. And the narrators did a good job. Just that the male narrator kinda forgot he was supposed to have a Scottish accent there a couple of times. 😆 But that didn't take from the great short story. 💙💙💙

Revisado: 12-15-23
Short and cute with a super cute ending. The female narrator, however, waaaaaay to melancholy. It was such a stark contrast to the male narrator. Very annoying! This is supposed to be a happy story woman. 😒😒🙄🙄
