Disappointed that this is the only audio book in the series.

I enjoyed this very much. The Saga of Exiles series is an underrated work but the narrator brought it to life well. For me it rates with the better known Dune series. So much of May’s world is well thought out and convincing and well integrated with European folk tales. I join my voice to others asking for the other book to be recorded.

At first I was taken aback with the introduction and wasn’t sure this was for me but I’m so glad I stuck with it. At different times I almost wept then at others I laughed out loud. So grateful to the author for her forthright honesty in this well written and performed work.

An entrancing reading of an intriguing story.

I doubt if I would have liked this book enough to finish it if I had read it myself. Tom Hiddleston’s performance brought the characters to life and made me feel like I was at a play. I forgot about the reading and watched the drama play out in my imagination. I enjoyed this very much.
I know he is very busy but organise more Tom Hiddleston readings of audio books please.

A stunning production.

I’m so grateful that this cast and Audible have made this available. Living in a rural location in Australia there is little chance that I would get to see a cast of this quality but to hear them was a real pleasure. Even better is that when I have had a chance to process this experience I can return to it for further reflection.

All settled back for another Corinna and what did I hear? Oh, no. A different reader and one not at all like the previous one. I’m sure if I heard this reader read a different book, or if I hadn’t been so invested in the rest of the series I would have not been so shocked. It is especially noticeable if you do as i do and listen to them in series. I can’t I just can’t. It’s not just the different characterisations that get me, I could have adapted to that but it is also the pace. Too fast for me to listen to at normal speed and too slow at .75. I’m sure many will love this but even after multiple listening and aborted attempts I’ll just have to let this one moulder in the archives of my collection.😢

Misleading and disappointing

I bought this as a way to listen to French as I slept. Big mistake! I could get the content of this for free on you tube!

Agatha and David together..couldn't get any better

What made the experience of listening to The Mysterious Affair at Styles the most enjoyable?

The reader is so convincing in the narration that I almost forget who is reading to me and I am just carried away by the story.

What about David Suchet’s performance did you like?

He has the ability to disappear into the story and in my mind I could see the story and forget the reader. I don't think it would matter what he read it would be easy to listen to and when he reads this material, which must be so familiar, it is seamless.

Any additional comments?

I think I would be tempted to pay for David's narration even if he was reading a timetable.

Love this crazy story.

Would you listen to Murder in the Dark again? Why?

I wouldn't listen again as I found the pace of the narration and the character accents not to my taste. I'm very familiar with the book and enjoy the tv series too so I found a disconnect between those and this reader.

How could the performance have been better?

More variety in the pace and if someone is going to sing lyrics I'd prefer them to be more polished. I realise from other reviews that this is a popular reader so I'm in the minority but I will stick to reading the books I think as I have to work quite hard to prevent the reader spoiling my enjoyment of the story.
