Historia
Discreet but ever faithful, the angels play a vital role in God's plan for our lives. Created as spiritual beings who mediate between us and God, angels serve as our constant companions, advisers, and protectors, watching over us while standing before God's throne in Heaven. In this powerful new book, Odile Haumonte carefully combines the writings of Scripture, Tradition, and the testimony of saints who met angels face-to-face to unveil for you the breathtaking facts behind these heroic heavenly beings.

Tough to listen to
Revisado: 04-18-23
Three chapters in and it’s a struggle to stay awake. Narration leaves a lot to be desired. Flat and lacking energy.

Historia
According to the establishment media, the intelligentsia, and our political chattering class, the greatest threat to American freedom lies in right-wing authoritarianism. We’ve heard that some 75 million Americans who voted for Donald Trump represent the rise of American fascism; that conservatives have allowed authoritarianism to bloom in their midst, creating a grave danger for the republic.

Historia
A mysterious island. An abandoned orphanage. A strange collection of very curious photographs. As our story opens, a horrific family tragedy sets 16-year-old Jacob journeying to a remote island off the coast of Wales, where he discovers the ruins of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. As Jacob explores its abandoned bedrooms and hallways, it becomes clear that the children were more than just peculiar. They may have been dangerous. And somehow—impossible though it seems—they may still be alive.

Wonderful story, awful narration
Revisado: 09-25-16
A wonderfully whimsical entry into this series. I thoroughly enjoyed the story, and would have awarded five stars were it not for the awful narration. For the most part, his voice fits the first person view of a 16 year old male. That said, the amateur caricature of what one can only assume is the narrators impression on various UK accents is akin to nails on a chalkboard. Highly recommend reading this book, but save your ears from the audio.

It's America in 1962. Slavery is legal once again. The few Jews who still survive hide under assumed names. In San Francisco, the I Ching is as common as the Yellow Pages. All because some twenty years earlier the United States lost a war - and is now occupied by Nazi Germany and Japan.

Conceptually interesting/technically abysmal
Revisado: 11-04-15
I am familiar with Mr Dick's work in terms of how it has been channelled into popular media. This is, however, my first reading of his work. The ideas of the alternate history depicted in the story are complex and interesting but the execution is so awful it defies description. The prose would get you a failing grade in freshman composition. While the narrator does the best he can with the story, he can hardly be held liable for the terrible writing. Read it if you must but pass this audiobook by lest you suffer as I have. I'm just glad this was on sale.

What were the forces that thrust the British Empire to its extraordinary position of greatness and then just as powerfully drove it into decline? And why is nearly every nation on earth, in one way or another, the consequence of the British Empire? In these 36 lectures, Professor Allitt leads you through four centuries of British power, innovation, influence, and, ultimately, diminishment-four profound centuries that literally remade the world and bequeathed the complex global legacy that continues to shape your everyday life.

Wonderful overview!
Revisado: 01-08-15
I thoroughly enjoyed this lecture series by Professor Allitt. While he cannot, due to time constraints, go deep with any one time period or geographic dimension of the BE, he does a fantastic job of giving an overview of the history of the British Empire. He is entertaining and easy to listen to from a performance standpoint. Professor Allitt left me with a desire to read further into many aspects of British History touched on in this course. He does an excellent job of presenting a point of you that is fair, though decidedly British, perspective, therefore providing an American audience the opportunity to see perhaps familiar events through another lens. Well done! Highly recommended.
