Martin Short takes you on a rich, hilarious, and occasionally heartbreaking ride through his life and times, from his early years in Toronto as a member of the fabled improvisational troupe Second City to the all-American comic big time of Saturday Night Live and memorable roles in movies such as ¡Three Amigos! and Father of the Bride.

I love Martin Short but his memoir i disappointing
Revisado: 04-23-22
Martin Short is amazingly talented, but this story falls flat. It feels mostly name dropping and not in a fun way. I won't be finishing it.

Hero's journey
Revisado: 08-14-17
I loved this book. Great road adventure meeting fabulous and terrible characters. Phoebe Strole is the perfect narrator for this story. I loved her sense of irony and characterization.
I thought Mr Arnold did a great job of creating a teen aged girl. The characters are complex and likable. Great listen and likely a great read too. So happy I found this book.

Inspiring story
Revisado: 10-11-16
Malala is an inspiration and her life story is a great one. The book is written by her and the voice is a teen age voice. I'm glad I heard her story even though it's not great literature.

Wizard of Oz for grown ups
Revisado: 10-06-16
I think this is a guy's book but I still liked t. Weird fantasy, thriller comedy is how I described it to friends. I kept trying to find the spiritual in the path and it might be there but it is entitled "The Hike" after all. Then I saw the similarities with The Wizard of Oz. Too much violence for me and was nauseated with a few of the fight scenes. After reading a few reviews to decide if I wanted to continue the reviewers said the ending was a surprise. Was it ever!!! I did imagine a bit of "dream" "guy in charge of own life" , but NOT in the way Magary did. Fabulous!! So glad I stuck with it. Wow. What a ride! Hope a movie is made.

Winesburg, Ohio has the most memorable cast of characters in 20th-century fiction. Listeners will remember at least a few stories and their characters for the rest of their lives. Each of the 23 stories stands on its own. And each is also interwoven into the fabric of the book.

Narrator ruined it
Revisado: 10-01-16
I can't get through the first hour. I couldn't tell if the narrator was making side comments or if it actually was the author. I bought this audible version because it was the least expensive. Seems like a mistake. The book is a classic so "it must be good" and a reliable friend highly recommended it. I may need to read the book on paper. Or try a different narrator.

Anne Hathaway is brilliant in this narration. Every character's voice is full of life and varied. Clever. Some sophisticated. Some quite funny. I had only seen the movie and this was a wonderful interpretation of a well known story.

Revisado: 09-18-16
What a great story. The characters were wonderful and flawed. I listen in my car and could hardly wait to get back into the car for a long drive. Moriarty built the suspense just right. I want to know what happens next. I didn't want it to end. I love that she writes about real problems but has a great sense of humor. Hope someone picks this up as a movie.

Here is a timeless tale of waterside Britain that has been loved by generations of children and acclaimed as a classic. The story of Mole, Ratty, Badger, and Toad, and their escapades, whether messing about on the river or poop-pooping in Toad's shiny new car, cannot fail to enchant.

Fabulous narration
Revisado: 09-05-16
Classic novel I've been meaning to read for a long time. Michael Hordern is a wonderful actor/narrator. He created interesting characters with his voice and inflection. I really liked his British English which kept me in the time and place, yet transcending both. I don't usually like novels with animal protagonists, but Kenneth Grahame's Wind in the Willows is a must read - if only to hear him read "there's nothing like messing about in boats."

NYC - nice place to visit and I'm staying in the west
Revisado: 02-14-16
Bramhall's narration is great. He is able to give character and personality to the many different men and women in the story.
New York and Rutherfurd's Paris are grand in scope and I love how the generations connect to each other through out the years.
I recommend the book to lovers of historical fiction and those who love New York itself. I'm a west coaster myself, but this tale makes me want to visit NYC and helps me to understand some of the differences between the coasts. I also was interested in reading about society and blue bloods.
It's long but it kept me interested. I'm going to plan a trip to New York, but for tonight I'll watch Saturday Night Live.
