Historia
On a dark, wintry day, Eliza Grey receives a mysterious letter from her ailing Nana Mora begging her to come for a visit. This is an easy "Yes". Eliza has always preferred Nana Mora's beach cottage on St. Simons Island to the apartment she and her mom call home in the city. The island is a magical place where stories and legends grow as thick as the Spanish moss dangling in the trees. Now, Nana Mora's eyesight is fading, and there's something she wants to show Eliza before it’s totally gone: a mythical place locals refer to as Sirens Harbor.

Fairy Tale Meets Reality - Cute for all ages
Revisado: 11-22-20
This book is a fun listen. Sometimes, the narrator's voice is almost too soothing that she puts you to sleep. However, if you can get past that, the story advocates for adventure and boldness. Imagination, love, and quality of life are also themes throughout. It's a good ol' family bedtime story that'll last you several nights.

Historia
On Christmas Eve, 2017, Tess Henry was found dead in a dumpster in Las Vegas. Tess was a 28-year-old new mother, a former honor roll student, and a high school basketball player from suburban Roanoke, Virginia, a place ravaged by the national opioid crisis. The New York Times best-selling author Beth Macy chronicled Tess and her mom, Patricia, through Tess' harrowing, years-long battle to recover from heroin addiction in her award-winning book Dopesick: Dealers, Doctors, and the Drug Company That Addicted America.

Compelling but definitely slanted
Revisado: 10-05-20
This book tells a story of one of many sad addiction plights in America. It helps the reader relate to the struggle, and empathize with the addict and their families. It does push MAT a lot and denounces full abstinence. The argument is that MAT would have saved Tess' life. This may be true, but the narrator fails to distinguish between keeping someone alive and them fully flourishing. There's definitely a motivational bias here, but it is understandable since she bonded so much with the family. Overall, a pretty interesting listen.

The best-selling author of American Housewife is back with a fiercely funny collection of essays on marriage and manners, thank-you notes and three-ways, ghosts, gunshots, gynecology, and the Calgon-scented, onion-dipped, monogrammed art of living as a Southern lady.

False Advertising
Revisado: 09-22-20
She’s a great narrator with good inflection and cadence. I just don’t like her as a person. I wanted more actual southern lady code and less Manhattan socialite lore. I can tell she’s trying to be funny, but it seems disingenuous and self-serving. Overall, I give it a "Meh."

Revisado: 09-19-20
This story teaches the reader to think of others before themselves. Themes are to be careful what you wish for, and change is nothing to be afraid of. Change is actually good, and we should appreciate it and look forward to it! The voice actors and sound affects are great. It's charming and whimsical. Fun for the whole family.

Total Hater of AA Program
Revisado: 09-07-20
This guy HATES the traditional program. He goes as far as accusing AA of systematically taking advantage of vulnerable women. Nevertheless, if you're someone who wants to get sober without AA, this book could be helpful. He pretty much levels with you and dispels a lot of wives tales. Although I do not agree with his definition of sobriety, I do see that this book could help someone make choices that will lead them in a better direction.

Historia
Every life reaches that crucial intersection, the place where you must choose your fate, or have it chosen for you. For best-selling author Rich Cohen (The Fish That Ate the Whale, The Last Pirate of New York), it came in a writing workshop senior year in college, when, at 17, he had to knuckle under to a ruthless professor or make a righteous, self-defeating stand.

Touching and Relatable Memoir
Revisado: 08-23-20
This is a story about a personal journey, as well as a father's role in his son's life. It is pretty down to earth, even though the characters had more "status" than most middle-americans. It kept me engaged the whole way through.

Revisado: 08-23-20
The voice actors are great in the audio book. It's definitely as described. Very tongue-and-cheek-y. If you like dark humor, you'll like this story. Definitely adult themed. Would not listen with your kiddos.

Historia
This hilarious, heartfelt, and soaring adventure will delight fans of The Goonies and Indiana Jones. Performed as a 1930s radio drama, it’s bursting with humor for all ages, orchestral scoring, and some of the most talented voices on Broadway. When their ace pilot parents (and adorable puppy) mysteriously disappear over the Pacific, the Flamingo Sisters - Flo, Faye, and Franny - escape the clutches of their evil Uncle Freidrich (who believes girls should never pilot aeroplanes) and join a flying circus.

Prescient Story
Revisado: 08-10-20
This story is a timely tale of how we all have the potential to lose ourselves under the premise of an easier, technology-assisted lifestyle. The characters have arcs that demonstrate varying degrees of comfort with technology, change, and privacy. It's easy to follow since there are two distinct voice actors throughout. You'll probably enjoy it. Give it a listen.

Historia
The American South is a multifaceted region with its own vocabulary, peculiarities, and cultural touchstones. Even for those born in the South, the unspoken rules - layered in local nuances and complexities - can sometimes be confounding. Tennessee whiskey may technically be bourbon, but don't let anyone in Kentucky hear you call it that. And bless your heart, don't you dare make the mistake of confusing a magnolia blossom with a Japanese tulip.

A little too long, and makes you hungry!
Revisado: 08-03-20
This book was educational, and tongue-and-cheeky. The narrator's voice was almost too lyrical and soothing. The length of the book in combination with his perfect accent actually tended to put me to sleep. I'd say nearly 50% of the terms were related to food, so I was constantly hungry listening to it. Overall, it was alright. I just wish it was a little shorter and a little more up-beat to keep me engaged.
