Narrator sounds like AI
Revisado: 10-12-24
The story is charming and fun, although drags a bit at times. My biggest issue is it was hard to know I liked the story because the narration was so awkward. She sounds like AI that doesn’t understand pacing and inflection. I had to listen on 1.2 to get her to sound human.

Fun, straightforward fantasy with an awful narrator
Revisado: 07-27-24
As the title says, the story is fun. The plot is relatively straightforward, although not boringly predictable, but the characters are well written and flushed out. Overall I enjoyed it. Unfortunately, the narrator seemed to miss any lesson on normal conversational intonation. His character voices are abysmal and make all of the women sound straight out of monty python. He also misreads key words occasionally which is very confusing.

Overrated absurdist porn
Revisado: 06-04-24
There is not a single redeeming quality to this book. It was recommended by nearly 20 different attending physicians, whom I can only assume recommend it as the only book they’ve ever read. Gratuitous pornography written by a true relic of the bastard past of psychiatry, a Freudian.
The characters are hyperbolically evil and I redeemable, making their ham-fisted redemption in the final chapters insincere and unbelievable.
If you want to more about medicine, if you are going into or are in medical training, if you are simply craving a good story, do not waste your time in this book. I finished it only so I could recommend against it in good conscience. Every moment was in enjoyable and I wish I could take that time back.

Excellent narration, underwhelming content beyond the basics
Revisado: 05-03-23
The narration was great.
The content is underwhelming if you have any background in writing. The basics are the basics for a reason, they’re fundamental. This book covers them adequately. This is really a rehashing of others works with updated examples.

The culture of “safety” and its intolerance of opposing viewpoints has left many young people anxious and unprepared for adult life. Lukianoff and Haidt offer a comprehensive set of reforms that will strengthen young people and institutions, allowing us all to reap the benefits of diversity, including viewpoint diversity. This is a book for anyone who is confused by what’s happening on college campuses today, or has children, or is concerned about the growing inability of Americans to live and work and cooperate across party lines.

Right answer, wrong equation
Revisado: 10-18-22
I’ve never heard someone so accurately identify a problem through incorrect analysis. The book is very clearly meant to speak to a certain group of thinkers as every example demonstrates tremendous bias by way of analysis of events and perceived impact.
If you’re a college liberal you may well gain some perspective; otherwise don’t waste your time.

Historia
Since its release in 1949, The Hero with a Thousand Faces has influenced millions of readers by combining the insights of modern psychology with Joseph Campbell's revolutionary understanding of comparative mythology. In this book, Campbell outlines the Hero's Journey, a universal motif of adventure and transformation that runs through virtually all of the world's mythic traditions. He also explores the Cosmogonic Cycle, the mythic pattern of world creation and destruction.

Freudian psychosexual
Revisado: 10-01-22
The narration is over the top and melodramatic. It serves no purpose to have three narrators, each with terrible quirks of pronunciation and timing ruin the flow of the reading.
I was unaware Joseph Campbell’s work was so deeply rooted in Freudian psychosexual theory. Nearly all of this sexual theory is defunct and absurd. So if you’re expecting a discussion of hero mythology, be prepared for sexual theory as well as Campbell’s own personal preaching of a one world religion.
His theory itself lacks elegance and is only able to be made on careful ignorance or amorphous inclusion criteria. He dismisses anything that doesn’t fit as “derivative” or “degenerate.”
I do not recommend wasting your time. Read a 5 minute summary and spare yourself.

Historia
When Lenina and Bernard visit a savage reservation, we experience how Utopia can destroy humanity. Cloning, feel-good drugs, anti-aging programs, and total social control through politics, programming, and media: has Aldous Huxley accurately predicted our future? With a storyteller's genius, he weaves these ethical controversies in a compelling narrative that dawns in the year 632 A.F. (After Ford, the deity). When Lenina and Bernard visit a savage reservation, we experience how Utopia can destroy humanity.

Excellent story, awful narration
Revisado: 04-10-22
This text is a favorite of mine. I thought I’d give it a go in audio form so I could listen while working. Unfortunately the narrator speaks as if he’s never heard another human being speak sincerely. Every line is read as if it’s a preposterous joke. I understand the absurdity in the story, but it’s meant that the characters take it seriously. The narrator missed the mark.

An absolute must
Revisado: 02-04-22
A short, easy listen, with a lively and appropriate narration. Animal Farm is a work of fiction that is perhaps more true than fact of history. Required reading for the 21st century.
