Historia
Homicide Detective Max Rupert never fully accepted his wife's death, even when he believed that a reckless hit and run driver was the cause. But when he learns that in fact she was murdered, he devotes himself to hunting down her killers. Most of his life he had thought of himself as a decent man. But now he's so consumed with thoughts of retribution that he questions whether he will take that last step and enact the vengeance he longs for.

Mediocre
Revisado: 03-08-25
Did not care for the story or how it skipped around. Very slow moving. I like the author but this one fell short of his other books. Narrator pronounced words incorrectly and had a low monotonous tone.

Historia
Is it ever too late to overcome the adversities of our past? Set in the South during the 60s and 70s, The Art of Straightening Nails follows Robert Rhodes as he reminisces about his life. His childhood had not been a pleasant, innocent experience. Aside from the poverty and the endless disappointment his family endured, the boy had also known personal challenges of neglect and abuse. As an adult, Robert continues to be fettered by his past. Even a religious conversion doesn't resolve his struggles. After realizing the source of his lifelong pain, he confronts his past in a dramatic climax ...

Enjoyed but rather ordinary
Revisado: 12-04-24
Absolutely did not like the voice as it was very monotone detracting from the story. The story was ok, nothing really extraordinary or outstanding. Very vanilla.

An achingly beautiful work of historical fiction, Send for Me moves between Germany on the eve of World War II and present-day Wisconsin, unspooling a thread of love, longing, and the powerful bonds of family.

Disappointing
Revisado: 02-29-24
I did not care for narrator, often inflection or emphasis was not in the correct place. Storyline was very erratic making it difficult to follow who, what and where. This could have been such a good book had there been some cohesiveness to the story and characters. Then it abruptly ends. Very disappointed.

Disjointed and illogical
Revisado: 06-01-20
Thought this was going to be much better than it turned out to be. The premise of the story is silly and unrealistic. The main characters thought and actions do not follow logic and reasoning. Her inner dialogue along with communication with her sister is more of middle school girls than two adults who are in graduated school. I think this could have been so much more. Very disappointed and not worth the time.

Well written but lacking
Revisado: 05-07-20
I really enjoyed the story and thought it well written. However the abrupt ending really did not end where I thought the story was going. Disappointing for a story that was well weaved.

Historia
Years ago, Beth Lathrop and her sister Kate suffered what they thought would be the worst tragedy of their lives the night both the famous painting Moonlight and their mother were taken. The detective assigned to the case, Conor Reid, swore to protect the sisters from then on. Beth moved on, throwing herself fully into the art world, running the family gallery, and raising a beautiful daughter with her husband Pete. Kate, instead, retreated into herself and took to the skies as a pilot, always on the run.

Well written
Revisado: 04-21-20
Really enjoyed the story and characters. Liked how the characters were developed. Shortcomings were very early on the killer was apparent which made it a bit tedious waiting for the characters to catch up and figure it out. Also, the detective was creepy, you will see why, didn’t make sense. Otherwise a good story.
