Historia
When small-town Nebraska sheriff Hixon Drake meets Greta Dare, the connection couldn't be stronger, but the timing couldn't be worse. Dealing with the fallout of a divorce he never wanted and setting up a new home for his kids, Hix becomes that guy, that one he never wanted to be, and puts a stop to things before they can even start. Protecting his kids and himself is his only priority. Greta, on the other hand, has found the place for her and the brother she adores that's perfect for them - a sleepy little town in Nebraska.

Story moved & was moving: fitting title
Revisado: 03-04-25
Great story. It wasn’t a cookie cutter plot. There wasn’t needless repetition of the characters’ thoughts. The language and the thinking of kids in the story was not juvenile, and they played intergral roles in the story. I loved the voices of the characters. Sexy parts were pretty good.

Historia
Colonialism and imperialism are often thought to be distant memories, whether they're glorified in Britain's collective nostalgia or taught as a sin of the past in history classes. This idea is bolstered by the emergence of India, China, Argentina, and other non-Western nations as leading world powers. Multiculturalism, immigration, and globalization have led traditionalists to fear that the West is in decline and that white people are rapidly being left behind. But imperialism, as Kehinde Andrews argues, is alive and well.

The purpose of colonies. Why African counties have not advanced even with freedom from colonial rule. Why the US has had a long history or involving itself in the rule of African, Latin American, and Middle Eastern counties. What “neoliberalism” is. What’s really happening in the US now.

How did Fidel Castro fool the CIA for a generation? Why did Neville Chamberlain think he could trust Adolf Hitler? Why are campus sexual assaults on the rise? Do television sitcoms teach us something about the way we relate to each other that isn't true? While tackling these questions, Malcolm Gladwell was not solely writing a book for the page. He was also producing for the ear. In the audiobook version of Talking to Strangers, you’ll hear the voices of people he interviewed - scientists, criminologists, military psychologists.

Worth reading, but bends the conclusions made for each example to fit his thesis. However, this fact would make it a great read for a large book club that would be willing to devote more than one hour to discussing it. Many subjects to discuss.

Please, please make Ester part of a series. How does Dawes know how a woman really think? Jones narration was refreshingly real. More, more, more please.

Knowledge is power. That would be the motto of Lander University, had it not been snatched up and used to death by others long before the school was founded. For while Lander offers a full range of courses to nearly all students, it also offers a small number of specialty classes to a very select few. Lander is home to the Hero Certification Program, a curriculum designed to develop students with superhuman capabilities, commonly known as Supers, into official Heroes.

Slow start, that makes one think it’s a book for teens. But then it picks up momentum. Satisfying while making one want to read more in the series. Avoids a “Deus ex machina” ending.

A disappointment...
Revisado: 06-02-18
Dr Fung was quoting research study after research study til the last 90 minutes when he started to spout things without any research studies to back it up. I also noticed that he suggest to Diabetics to take less insulin which sounds just like the people at the beginning of the book that he said were purposefully underdosing themselves to lose weight. Most concerning is that he suggest people should avoid telling people what they were doing and only suggested contacting their physician if they run into trouble. He’s much more conservative about what he suggests people do in his article that appear in print on the web...! He suggests doing it 36hr 3-4 times per week— he’s suggesting normal eating less than half a week. Sounds like anorexia!!!

Difficult
Revisado: 08-26-17
Concepts difficult enough that one really has to pay attention while listening to this audiobook i.e. with pen and paper. Maybe there would be a study guide that could be purchased if buying the course directly through The Great Courses that would make it easier to understand. Not a topic one can listen to and follow while driving, cooking, or doing the laundry.

Brain stretcher, but good...
Revisado: 06-06-17
Reading some chapters would push out of my brain the take-home lesson from the previous chapter. For a third of the chapters I think I still remember the take-home lessons now that I've finished the book. I think I'll have to read the book again taking notes of the take-home messages for the rest. The part I remember without writing anything down was what is a algorithm regarding how to find a good spouse!!!
