What I liked the most about this book was that there were plenty of dramatic events that could have brought the strongest men and women to their knees, or could have flooded the characters' minds with suicidal ideologies. Instead of staying in negative states of mind, and instead of even giving those kinds of destructive emotions fuel, the members of this family lifted each other up. They were all so supportive of each other at just the right moments so that they could continue on with their lives and flourish. They didn't just survive life's catastrophes, they found ways thrive thanks to the love that these siblings shared for one another, and for each other's spouses. Remembering to be grateful for what we DO have helps us to get over the people and things that we lose during our lifetimes, as well as keeping us from coveting the people and things that we don't have in our lives. It seems to be easy to forget that everything that material breaks down, goes away, and fades; including our own bodies. However, regardless of which of the many world of religions you subscribe to, they all believe that in one form or another our spirits live on. Keeping that in mind, that we are all just spirits having a human experience, helps us to navigate our individual challenging terrains with a little bit more grace, honor, and is certainly what will help us make the best choices during our lives while refining our spirits and helping us grow in the ways that each of us were intended to.

Insightful, informative, inspirational, and should be required reading for anyone working in the mental health industry, education, social work, and possibly every line of work where one person interacts with another. unless you are a hermit that never interacts with other human beings, you will learn something useful from this book.

I wish I had come across this book when it first came out. I actually wish I could have been treated by the doctor when I was growing up. This book was very impactful and personal to me. I highly recommend it.

There is a much shorter description of this type of therapy in Audible. I would recommend looking at the shorter version because this was a very drawn out explanation of how this type of therapy works on individuals, within couples, in the entire family, and even within government. There is definitely a political stance to the government part of the explanation, which to me, took away some of the feeling that therapists were supposed to be less opinionated and more objective to their patients or therapeutic recommendations (even on sociological scales). I still share the same political beliefs, but it still took away from the feeling that the therapist was open-minded to all sides when they specifically go after one politician or political affiliation.

Although they briefly address it in the book, I strongly believe that there is a danger to unblending 'parts' of a patient that has a history of DID/MPD. Thinking that a therapist can speak to a 'part' within a patient who has a violent alternate personality without having very dangerous repercussions is very foolish. This could easily result in an assault on a medical practitioner (the therapist), then felonies and prison time for a patient! If a dissociated personality that was created to physically protect the patient is triggered, that personality could be unleashed on the outside world and cause harm to others outside of the session. I very strongly advise this type of therapy Not to be used on anybody that has the signs of DID. Outside of those patients, this type of therapy could be very effective for everyone else because we all have 'parts', sorta speak.

Helping people to recognize that we all get conflicting ideas on which way is the 'right way' to go with any given decision, and how to reconcile this polarity of thought, is a positive thing. Additionally, incorporating the idea of 'higher selves', fits well into most theologies and is refreshing to see in the science of psychology. Worth listening to, but again, get the shorter version and save yourself some time.

it was a good pick me up if it is written for someone who is currently so down that they can't see the way up. in other words, a lot of it seemed to be common sense. I understand the argument would be made that what is common sense to one group is new information to another, but I still think that this book could be summed up as "this too shall pass". if you heard that growing up and understood, you don't need to listen to this whole book. if you've never heard that saying before, this book might just blow your mind.

I loved watching doogie howser as a kid, and I aspired to do well in school because of him so that I could someday become a doctor. I fell way short of that goal, but I still loved everything that Neil has been in ever since. Being a straight man, I hate musicals, and I don't think I would have enjoyed his Broadway stuff though. that in no way took away from hearing him tell about it in this book. This was entertainment from beginning to end. I highly recommend it. Neil Patrick Harris seems like you would have the best sense of humor in real life, and I wish I lived next door to him and his family. That is at least a goal I can aspire to now.

This book was amazing to listen to. I have studied martial arts most of my life, but got into Gracie jiu jitsu much later then I wish I would have. I am proud to be a part of what this book describes, and anybody who has studied any BJJ has to hear this. Every fighter, warrior, and martial artist will appreciate this book. It makes you want to hit the mats every time you listen to a chapter.

Seth is always funny, and I love his stories, but this was an extremely short book. it shouldn't be full price. Wait for it to go on sale.

This book is the perfect mesh of an autobiographical story and a podcast in between chapters. David Goggins shows the resiliency of the human body and mind in the inspiring and motivating true story of his life as a child going through the unthinkable, adult challenging himself even more than multiple branches of the military can on their own, and breaking world records at the same time. Listening to this is way better than the book because you can still look up the pics he mentions, but you get to hear him answer questions asked by Adam Skolnick, the narrater, and hear Goggins tell more stories than what the book alone has.

I won't lie. She's not my favorite comedian. However, I laughed my ass off through this entire book; with the exception of chapter 7. The constant screaming was annoying enough I wish I had skipped from 6 to 8. Everything else was definitely worth listening to.
