Historia
High school senior Andrew Perrault finds refuge in the twisted fairy tales that he writes for the only person who can ground him to reality—Thomas Rye, the boy with perpetually ink-stained hands and hair like autumn leaves. And with his twin sister, Dove, inexplicably keeping him at a cold distance upon their return to Wickwood Academy, Andrew finds himself leaning on his friend even more. But something strange is going on with Thomas. His abusive parents have mysteriously vanished, and he arrives at school with blood on his sleeve.

Historia
For GBI investigator Will Trent and medical examiner Sara Linton, McAlpine Lodge seems like the ideal getaway to celebrate their honeymoon. Set on a gorgeous, off-the-grid mountaintop property, it’s the perfect place to unplug and reconnect. Until a bone-chilling scream cuts through the night. Mercy McAlpine, the manager of the Lodge, is dead. With a vicious storm raging and the one access road to the property washed out, the murderer must be someone on the mountain. But as Will and Sara investigate the McAlpine family and the other guests, they realize that everyone here is lying.

Historia
Newly updated in March 2022, this audiobook recognizes that despite laws and ad campaigns, people still use meth because it feels good. Ignorance and misplaced shame are by far the biggest factors that cause the meth user harm, thereby creating social and financial costs to communities everywhere. This audiobook is not intended to induce anybody to break laws to use meth. It is a recognition that numbers of people already use and so ends ignorance with 32 tips for safer use to make using meth as harm-free as possible.

Fascinating and Entertaining
Revisado: 12-09-23
Every now and then there’s a podcast that you just wish was a conversation taking place in your living room. this was that podcast for me. It was so fascinating to hear about the culture of baboons, and have it applied to modern society. I really enjoyed this, and was especially inspired by hearing how the baboon culture changed after a tragedy. The culture shift was maintained, simply by baboons modeling different behavior. Thinking about how humans have changed, and how there is always room for growth, and that we can facilitate it

Cognitive Distortions and Practicing Truth

Historia
This week we discussed cognitive distortions with Adam Borechy. Usually cognitive behavioral therapists deal with cognitive distortions by helping their clients identify habitual negative thoughts and and putting those thoughts on trial. We don’t have to accept every thought that passes through our brains as truth. When we have distressing thoughts, it can be helpful to consider if we might be telling ourselves the full truth about a situation. We refer to common cognitive distortions—depression, anxiety, feelings of failure, negative thoughts when interacting with people, social ...

Historia
Chemist Elizabeth Zott is not your average woman. In fact, Elizabeth Zott would be the first to point out that there is no such thing as an average woman. But it’s the early 1960s and her all-male team at Hastings Research Institute takes a very unscientific view of equality. Except for one: Calvin Evans; the lonely, brilliant, Nobel–prize nominated grudge-holder who falls in love with—of all things—her mind. True chemistry results.

This book is well written and a fun book about a repressive era. I appreciated the glimpse into what the world was like before the second wave of feminism. The story was a good balance of interesting, challenging, and fun.

Not every danger comes in the form of a mega-threat like a Titan. Some predators are a lot cozier...more personal. When one such creature threatens an independent tutor, Harry Dresden must shake off the blood and dirt of his most recent battles and rise to the occasion, even when it turns out that the new predator is far more dangerous and connected than first appearances would suggest.
