Historia
Jim Thompson's classic The Grifters is one of the best novels ever written about the art of the con, an ingeniously crafted story of deception and betrayal that was the basis for the critically acclaimed film by Stephen Frears and Martin Scorcese. To his friends, to his coworkers, and even to his mistress Moira, Roy Dillon is an honest hardworking salesman. He lives in a cheap hotel just within his pay bracket. He goes to work every day. He has hundreds of friends and associates who could attest to his good character.

Barbara Rosenblat is the BEST

Excellent noir, a classic. But better than the story, BARBARA! She is officially my favorite reader. Looking for other books she's done right now.

Historia
Reyna knows her relationship with Boyd isn't perfect; yet she sees him through a three-month stint at Riker's Island, their bond growing tighter. Kiki, now settled in the East Village after a youth that took her to Turkey and other far-off places - and loves - around the world, admires her niece's spirit but worries that motherhood to four-year-old Oliver might complicate a difficult situation. Little does she know that Boyd is pulling Reyna into a smuggling scheme across state lines, violating his probation.

So many words, so little meaning
Revisado: 03-26-19
Well, I finished. Hoping at every chapter that the story would finally come together. Alas... It dawdles into the dawn, more like finding some old diaries rather than a novel. Save your money and watch Short Cuts by Altman instead.
