Most relatable book I’ve ever read!
Revisado: 03-14-25
My brother in law told me about Raleigh’s content a few years ago. I have followed him on social media and highly appreciated so many of his posts, so when I found out he was releasing a book, I was excited to check it out and read it.
I’m a dentist and I don’t want to be a dentist anymore. I’m constantly working on side projects to get out of dentistry. While not the main focus, this book showed me that it’s very possible and that it’s worth the effort.
The book focuses mainly on our journey from carrying other peoples loads, to fighting that burden, to ultimately being at peace with that burden being outside of ourselves and allowing ourselves to create what we want to create and allowing everything else to just be. There were parts of every single paragraph that felt so relatable and brought a lot of introspection. Five stars for this book. One I will definitely read again and again!

How did Fidel Castro fool the CIA for a generation? Why did Neville Chamberlain think he could trust Adolf Hitler? Why are campus sexual assaults on the rise? Do television sitcoms teach us something about the way we relate to each other that isn't true? While tackling these questions, Malcolm Gladwell was not solely writing a book for the page. He was also producing for the ear. In the audiobook version of Talking to Strangers, you’ll hear the voices of people he interviewed - scientists, criminologists, military psychologists.

if you don't know how to think for yourself...
Revisado: 10-07-19
this book guides you to think exactly like the author, sometimes paying attention to details but only when it's convenient to drive his point home. if the details don't support his point, he'll slip right past them before you know what hit you. when talking about court cases, he'll mention the fact that the witness was coached if that helps explain his point, but if the fact that witnesses are coached disproves what he's explaining, he'll casually forget about bringing that up and present the witness testimony as proof to his theories. I was disappointed with this book.

Historia
A business parable about how to create a start-up that won't trap you when you want to sell it. According to John Warrillow, the number one mistake entrepreneurs make is to build a business that relies too heavily on them. Thus, when the time comes to sell, buyers aren't confident that the company-even if it's profitable-can stand on its own. To illustrate this, Warrillow introduces us to a fictional small business owner named Alex who is struggling to sell his advertising agency.

While I enjoyed much of the insight in this book, many of the conclusions seemed backwards to me in that the cause of some behaviors were presented as the results of said behaviors and vice versa. Still a very interesting read though

Historia
Most personal and organizational problems are the result of a little-known phenomenon called "self-deception". We deceive ourselves into thinking we're doing the right thing for the right reason, but people won't follow a leader whose motives are selfish. The tricky thing is, we don't know that our motivation is flawed. This audiobook explains what self-deception is, how people get trapped in it, how it undermines relationships and organizational achievement, and - most importantly - the surprising way to solve it.

Introspective perspective
Revisado: 04-25-18
The ideas in this book give an introspective approach to accountability. It helps you identify when your thoughts are focused on self justification for falling short instead of focusing your thoughts and getting the results you want. This principle applies to work itself, but even more so to all your interpersonal relationships. I LOVED it!
