I thought it was a unique twist on the typical fairytale. A very clever magical system.

Historia
George Orwell depicts a gray, totalitarian world dominated by Big Brother and its vast network of agents, including the Thought Police - a world in which news is manufactured according to the authorities' will and people live tepid lives by rote. Winston Smith, a hero with no heroic qualities, longs only for truth and decency. But living in a social system in which privacy does not exist and where those with unorthodox ideas are brainwashed or put to death, he knows there is no hope for him.

Classic
Revisado: 01-18-23
Orwell’s 1984 is still a provocative treatise on importance of individualism and questioning what is being presented to you. It does this while demonstrating how the human condition can be both a tool for and against these two forces.

The writing was ok. I just could not get excited about the characters. Someone else might be captivated by the story anyway.

Historia
An Anonymous-style rabble-rouser, an Arab Spring hacktivist, a black-hat hacker, an old-school cipherpunk, and an online troll are each offered a choice: go to prison or help protect the United States, putting their brains and skills to work for the government for one year. But being a white hat doesn't always mean you work for the good guys.

Hackers come of age.
Revisado: 11-12-18
Zer0es is a piece of sci-fi that taps into the fears and possibilities of AI. Wendig assembles a group of characters that grow with the story, reflect and complement each members feelings, needs, and fears. All of them start a little lost and alone. Through the journey together they find belonging and purpose. I think readers will find something of themselves in theses characters. #Sci-fi #AI #Prophecy?

Jealous of this fully fleshed out world.
Revisado: 08-06-18
Robert Jordan has created a world that is not only realized, but textured in such a way that you can envision yourself living there. He includes multiple cultures that hint at our world but are just different enough to seem fantastical, each with unique and complicated viewpoints and biases.
The Magic System Jordan utilizes, if he had not invented, seems so plausible that I sometimes find myself trying to emulate it.
Kate Reading and Michael Kramer are two of the best readers, and do not disappoint. They accomplish what I would think is impossible, voice the same characters, with the same tone and inflection, Amazing.

Historia
During his years in a neural-health facility, Pat Peoples has formulated a theory about silver linings. He believes that his life is a movie produced by God, that his mission is to become physically fit and emotionally supportive, and that if he succeeds, his happy ending will be the return of his estranged wife, Nikki. When Pat goes to live with his parents, everything seems changed: no one will talk to him about Nikki, and his new therapist seems to be recommending adultery as a form of therapy.

Darker clouds makes a brighter lining.
Revisado: 02-25-15
Decided to read this after enjoying the movie. These are two similar yet very different things. This book is darker. The characters more flawed. Which makes them all feel more real in their grittiness.
Well done Mr. Quick.
