Historia
In 1918, a world war raged, and a lethal strain of influenza circled the globe. In the midst of all this death, a bizarre disease appeared in Europe. Eventually known as encephalitis lethargica, or sleeping sickness, it spread worldwide, leaving millions dead or locked in institutions. Then, in 1927, it disappeared as suddenly as it had arrived. Asleep, set in 1920s and '30s New York, follows a group of neurologists through hospitals and asylums as they try to solve this epidemic and treat its victims - who learned the worst fate was not dying of it, but surviving it.

Why didn't someone catch this?
Revisado: 02-25-16
The author's work is captivating, and the fact that it is grounded in the personal history of her family makes it more intriguing.
HOWEVER, the mispronunciation of Verdun (verified the French pronunciation is most definitely with a short letter u) was EXTREMELY distracting.

Perfect blend of Narrator and Story
Revisado: 09-19-15
A disclaimer - I am a huge Simon Prebble fan... When searching for my next book, I always start with books narrated by Simon.. So I am more than a little prejudice towards this novel.
However, if you are a fan of historic fiction, victorian fantasy, or even steam punk fiction, you will love Charlie Fletcher's new series. I can't get enough of the period detail in clothes, modes of travel, and the advent of the 'natural sciences'.
I also love a good story - and Charlie Fletcher has written a very good story. The heroes all shine brightly, the villains create their own inky darkness. There is also a very confused young lady caught between.
This is one of those reads that you must revisit. There will be fresh details uncovered each time you do. Enjoy!

Surprisingly Smart
Revisado: 03-31-15
Would you try another book from Carola Dunn and/or Bernadette Dunne?
yes - I am curious to see exactly where Daisy goes from here. Her character is very quick witted
What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)
The ending was not your standard 'cozy' ending - the perspective taken was different, which made it interesting - Hard to talk about without giving things away!
What about Bernadette Dunne’s performance did you like?
Her performance voiced the characters very well - without distracting from the story
Could you see Death at Wentwater Court being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
There is too much 'back story' that would have to be left out, and I think it would make the story very ordinary
Any additional comments?
I look forward to getting to know Daisy more

Satan, who is incredibly bored these days, proposes a little wager: Johannes has one year to persuade 100 people to sign over their souls, or he will be damned forever.

Steampunk does Necromancy
Revisado: 03-30-15
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
This book is completely outside of my 'normal', which is a good thing - Tired of the same old thing? Take a ride on a demon train - with a carnival from Hell.
Who was your favorite character and why?
All of the characters were very different in their own right - I really can't choose at this point.
What does Christopher Cazenove bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
I think his way of invoking irony, sarcasm and humor in his voice really adds to the story
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
By the time you cut this down for a movie - most of the interesting stuff would be on the floor
Any additional comments?
I hope Cabal will really develop and become a new 'classic' in the 'classic detective' genre

When Edgar Allan Poe, a new cadet, comes forth with his own cryptic conclusion—that the man Landor is looking for is a poet—Landor is intrigued and enlists Poe as his assistant.

Louis Bayard - one of my favorites
Revisado: 07-06-14
What did you love best about The Pale Blue Eye?
EXCELLENT twist at the end... Never saw it coming
What other book might you compare The Pale Blue Eye to and why?
Stands on its own
Have you listened to any of Charles Leggett’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
First time - but not the last
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
It would be very difficult to condense this to a movie - too much detail/backstory would be lost
Any additional comments?
I love the unexpected-

Refreshing change from 'cozy mysteries'...
Revisado: 06-23-14
Would you listen to Comes a Time for Burning again? Why?
John Pruden is an excellent narrator, and the story moves along well.
Who was your favorite character and why?
The setting was my favorite character in this book. Refreshing change for me from the Victorian historicals that I usually gravitate to.
Have you listened to any of John Pruden’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
First time listening to John, will definitely seek out more performances from him.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
The story kept my attention throughout, and I found myself 'rewinding' to search for anything that I might have missed.
Any additional comments?
The second book ended, with what seemed to be a 'close-out' of the characters. I sincerely hope that the author will change his mind, and bring them back.

The first of Ngaio Marsh's 32 acclaimed mystery novels, this introduces the continuing detective protagonist, Sir Roderick Alleyn of Scotland Yard. Five guests gather at Sir Hubert Handesley's country house party for the amusing parlor game of "Murder". Better than a sleeping pill...... zzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Revisado: 06-23-14
What would have made A Man Lay Dead better?
The characters were ANNOYING...... I really couldn't care what happened to any of them
What was most disappointing about Ngaio Marsh’s story?
I was completely BORED...
How could the performance have been better?
For me, one of the worst narrators on audible.... the characterisations were extremely campy, overly affected, and jarring to listen to. Completely distracting...
Any additional comments?
I had heard Ngaio Marsh compared to Agatha Christie, and Dorothy Sayer. Not even close.

Harris and Porter are a winning combination
Revisado: 06-23-14
What did you love best about Why Kings Confess?
Harris and Porter are a solid team in creating the world of Sebastian St. Cyr. Each of the novels are done with depth of character, society, and environment. Davina is one of my favorite narrators. She opens the door to the novel, and becomes a guide to the listenener, without detracting from the author's work.
What did you like best about this story?
Hero St. Cyr's exploration of the society around her. Through Hero you get a deeper appreciation of the challenges faced by women and children of the time.
Which scene was your favorite?
The novel blends so well from one chapter to the next, and Davina does such a wonderful job of narration, just can't choose.
Any additional comments?
I wish Audible would present more of the series... fingers crossed

Historia
That Nelda Roundheels had been murdered would have been of little interest to anyone - except that her body turned up in the bishop of Winchester's bedchamber with a letter to the bishop, from the king's most important enemy, rolled up in her breastband. The bishop and his knight, Sir Bellamy of Itchen, realize immediately that the purpose of putting the body in Winchester's bedchamber is to embarrass and discredit the bishop. And the reason for this attack on Winchester is his calling of a convocation to chastise the king for acting high-handedly against the bishop of Salisbury.

My First Audible Return....
Revisado: 02-26-13
What disappointed you about Chains of Folly?
The narrator was horrible - I don't believe she had read/listened to any of the earlier works. She made Madelaine sound simpering and stupid. I couldn't get past the first few chapters.
What was most disappointing about Roberta Gellis’s story?
The narrator
How did the narrator detract from the book?
Didn't understand the characters - completely distracting
Any additional comments?
Miss May did a wonderful job with the earlier books - I encourage the publisher to record this one again...
