Historia
Known by his alias, "Oliver Stone," John Carr is the most wanted man in America. With two pulls of the trigger, the men who destroyed Stone's life and kept him in the shadows were finally silenced. But his freedom comes at a steep price: The assassinations he carried out prompt the highest levels of the U.S. government to unleash a massive manhunt. Behind the scenes, master spy Macklin Hayes is playing a very personal game of cat and mouse. He, more than anyone, wants Stone dead.

wow. I have never read/listened to any of his novels, but I have heard of him. I was intrigued to see this for free, and tried it. what a mistake, for the author. It was beyond staid and trite. I will never purchase any of his works. This story .. the characters... wow, just horrid. Dean Kootnz.. at least he had an original good story, then spun it off indefinitely. This thing is just dreadful. it's worth every penny for free.

Now this sequel sweeps listeners back into the past as Claire relates more of her perilous sojourn there with her Scottish warrior husband, James Fraser. I must not get it
Revisado: 03-18-10
I bought this book, looking forward to an epic tale of well-wrought characters in an interesting story. Unfortunately, I found the characters to be pretty stereotypical "strong heroic male" "strong heroic female" and just not engaging. My experience seems to be atypical. For reference, I enjoy the Ender's series, Pillars of the Earth, The Gunslinger series, about anything by Heinlein or King, as well as historical bios and fiction.

For 20 years Claire Randall has kept her secrets. But now she is returning with her grown daughter to Scotland's majestic mist-shrouded hills. Here Claire plans to reveal a truth as stunning as the events that gave it birth: about the mystery of an ancient circle of standing stones...about a love that transcends the boundaries of time...and about James Fraser, a Scottish warrior whose gallantry once drew a young Claire from the security of her century to the dangers of his....

Tedious
Revisado: 06-11-07
My son (age 11) and I find this novel boring. We read the first novel out loud, and while it was a bit of a task, the underlying story of a dragon rider intrigued us. This sequel, sadly, only continues the writer's tendancy to intrusive and numbing descriptiveness that subtracts from the experience. Seemingly endless accounts of every vale, glade, heather, peak, etc blur and muddy the landscape rather than enhance and define it. Similarly, the innumerable side characters, of whom ancient lineage, poems, and tales are recounted in stupifying detail, detract from what few distinct characters the writer has created.
Unlike other stories, which my son and I have eagerly anticipated listening to, such as the "Percy Jackson" series, this one has been forgotten about. After slogging thru the first 5 hours, we have largely given up. I can't remember anytime I have looked forward to a movie version of a book to make its story appealing.

11 out of 10, Absolutal Vunderbar!
Revisado: 10-29-06
Amazing story of a boy's growing up in circa WWII South Africa. The remarkable characters he meets along the way and his remarkable response to them and the events of his life will stay with me my entire life.
When I read the reviews, deciding on whether to make this choice or not, I was hesitant. More often than not, narrowly reviewed titles on Audible with overwhelmingly positive reviews are indicative of a nearly cult-like philosophy. I took the plunge, and am delighted. No particular view is espoused or eschewed. The author is merely a fantastic storyteller. I will be coming back to him again.
The length of this novel is wonderful; I only wish the story could have gone on about 100 more hours. The narrator is top-notch as well. The title of this review is a bastardization of the German-English spoken by one of the central characters, Doc. As I am limited to only one language, I hope my comment is not too offensive.

The Art of Detection is another spellbinding tale starring San Francisco homicide inspector Kate Martinelli. The victim is Sherlock Holmes aficionado Philip Gilbert, whose collection of priceless memorabilia is definitely worth killing for. It's up to Kate and her trusted partner Al Hawkin to follow the clues and bring a rather peculiar murderer to Justice.

This murder mystery brings the reader (listener, I guess) into the world of modern day Sherlockians, devotees of Sherlock Holmes, involving the murder of a leader of a Sherlockian cell. This aspect of the story provides much of the interest, in this otherwise "San Fransiscan policewoman detective solves the case" story. Well worth a listen

Shteyngart's second novel (The Russian Debutante's Handbook, 2002, was the first) is a wild ride that follows its protagonist and narrator, Misha Vainburg, from St. Petersburg (or St. Leninsburg as he prefers to call it) to a tiny country in the Caucasus called Absurdsvani.

Great narrator
Revisado: 07-27-06
All you need to know is that Arte Johnson reads with a delightful slavic/Jewish accent. The book itself takes a little while to get going, and the character is not exactly loveable, but by the end I found myself quite intrigued by his worldview and behavior.

Entertaining story with believable characters. A great story for a long ride, or while puttering around the house. The plot is interesting without being overly complicated, and the pacing is steady.
