Historia
After Tova Sullivan’s husband died, she began working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, mopping floors and tidying up. Keeping busy has always helped her cope, which she’s been doing since her eighteen-year-old son, Erik, mysteriously vanished on a boat in Puget Sound over thirty years ago. Tova becomes acquainted with curmudgeonly Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium. Marcellus knows more than anyone can imagine but wouldn’t dream of lifting one of his eight arms for his human captors—until he forms a remarkable friendship with Tova.

Historia
An astonishing tip from a grateful ex-convict seems implausible - but Inspector Ian Rutledge is intrigued and brings it to his superior at Scotland Yard. Alan Barrington, who has evaded capture for 10 years, is the suspect in an appalling murder during Black Ascot, the famous 1910 royal horse race honoring the late King Edward VII. His disappearance began a manhunt that consumed Britain for a decade. Now, it appears that Barrington has returned to England, giving the Yard a last chance to retrieve its reputation and see justice done.

Plot full of Twists and Turns
Revisado: 02-14-19
This is a plot filled with twists and turns and I dare you to guess the ending before the authors choose to reveal it to you. This mother/son combo are past masters of suspense and weave a very tight plot. I look forward to each new offering with pleasure.

Historia
Sir John Penlyon is planning to spend Christmas at his estate with his niece and his friend Danby, the closest thing he has to family since disowning his daughter years ago. (She eloped with the parson, who was, of course, penniless.) Danby suggests that at Christmastime the estate needs the presence of small children, and offers to find some - the “hirelings” - despite Sir John’s skepticism. Three children duly arrive, and the youngest, precocious four year-old Moppet, quickly endears herself to Sir John.

Don’t Miss this one
Revisado: 11-24-18
This is the winsome story of a penguin who adopted a 23 year old and an entire school of boys. Tom Michell had the rare chance to adopt a penguin who would have died otherwise, covered in oil from a ship binging its tanks.
Tom goes to Argentina to teach at a British boarding school and while exploring the countryside finds 100’s of beached oil covered penguins washed up in a bay. Suddenly movement catches his eye, one is alive. He impulsively takes the bird home and washes his feathers free of oil. He tries to reintroduce the bird to the ocean but the bird won’t budge from his side.
Here begins the lovely and gentle story of a penguin whose heart embraces and entire boarding school.

The next time you hear someone whining about the unfairness of life, give them this book. The author was raised in poverty but through grit and perseverance he helped his country despite that country having kicked him in the teeth many times. Chester Nez loved his country and gave it his all. Truly an inspiring story.

Historia
Captured by German forces shortly after Dunkirk, and not relinquished until May of 1945, nearly a year after the Normandy invasion, the British Channel Islands (Guernsey, Jersey, Alderney, Sark, and Herm) were characterized during their occupation by severe deprivation and powerlessness. The Islanders, with few resources to stage an armed resistance, constructed a rhetorical resistance based upon the manipulation of discourse.

Thoughtful Look at Nazi Occupation from a Guernsey Perspective
Revisado: 09-29-18
This is a well researched study of the 5 years of Nazi occupation of the Channel Islands as seen through the diaries and letters of Guernsey people. While there are inclusions about events in the other islands the focus is really on Guernsey. It is a fascinating, not sentimental look at life and events of those days.
Well written and researched, I recommend it for anyone interested in the Channel Islands as one would be hard pressed to understand the Islands without this background
