Historia
Of the eight affinities in Netherdei, Falken is the only follower of Shadow. Hunted by demonic spirits and imperial forces, Falken must help liberate his fellow cultivators and prepare for all that is to come. His former home, the Ardent Lunar Sect, lies broken, the man he thought of as a father buried in the ruins. To understand his powers and unlock the secrets of his fabled obsidian sword, Falken is forced to leave the safety of the oubliette. Through tragedies and new horrors, Falken and his friends must venture across the seas to the kingdom of Diyu, the land of ancient cultivators.

A great continuation to the series!
Revisado: 10-24-23
I absolutely loved the first, so I was excited to be able to go straight into book 2. The writing is amazing as always, and the characters continue to be great. I really can't wait to see where it goes with book 3! If you're looking for a new series, seriously check out this one. Narrator also continues to do masterful work.

A phenomenal cultivation story
Revisado: 10-20-23
Absolutely loved this book! It was such a treat to have the incredible prose that this book used. Not a criticism, but a lot of litRPG and progression fantasy that I’ve been reading recently have had more straight forward language. The feel of the book has more of the grandiose feeling that fantasy usually goes with, and I loved every second of it. The prose was enough to keep me captivated, so it didn’t hurt that the story and characters were top notch as well.
I loved all the characters, they each grew on you in their own way, and it was hard not to get invested in them. I loved Warmund Trip. He was a fun character who I viewed as a comedic relief, but then became one of my favorites. Eminent Grey was also fantastic.
Joe Jameson did an absolutely amazing job with the book, I really can’t speak higher about it. Just from this one series, he’s become one of the narrators that I’ll be keeping my eye on.
I honestly cannot recommend this book enough. I’ll be jumping into book 2 now.

Historia
Tal has found a doorway to an ancient pocket dimension in the woods, but the discovery has cost him dearly. Spellbook is lost somewhere inside, held by an unknown magical force. Should his bond to the book fade, Tal fears he will lose all awareness of the time loop he’s trapped in and any chance of escaping it. He must get Spellbook back before this happens, but the enchantments protecting the pocket dimension are formidable.

Shaping up to be a great series.
Revisado: 08-14-23
Wizard is a great follow up, and one that definitely hits its stride. There were a lot of QOL improvements over the first that made it a more compelling narrative. Tal is a very personable MC and while not having any extremes in personality other than a desire for information, is one of my favorite of any of my recent listens. The series continues to have a lot of great humor.
Overall, give the series a chance if you haven't already, and seriously continue it, if you have.

Historia
Hello stranger, my name is Tal, and I’m not an adventurer—those people are crazy. I’m just a sorcerer who is masquerading as a wizard. Oh, and I’m searching for answers about my parents’ mysterious deaths. Also monsters and other foes seem to show up wherever I go. All right, I see it. My new traveling companions are seasoned adventurers and are teaching me their ways—or at least they were before something happened to Time.

More than the sum of its parts.
Revisado: 04-07-23
I absolutely loved this book and I cannot wait for more! There were so many extremely well done aspects to the book, from the masterful use of the journal driven narrative, to the familiar feeling of a Dungeons and Dragons Campaign, and a lovely character arc.
I appreciate how the progression of the main character's sensibilities were handled in a time loop. In my limited experience in time loop stories, the MCs are always so quick to stop caring as soon as there's no longer any consequences to their actions. But Tal still continues to care, and is a breath of fresh air to see him actually act like a person would in this situation. They may not remember what happens when the time loop resents, but Tal will.
The magic system from what we can see feels incredibly well thought out, which each piece a well machined cog in a greater whole. The inspiration from DnD is clear, but it deviates enough that it's not just a copy pasted system, which is also great to see.
The narrator was Travis Baldree, nothing more has to be said about the quality of the performance other than the conversational tone of writing in a journal was absolutely perfect in audio format.
If you're looking for your next listen, do yourself a favor, and pick this one up!
