I originally purchased the physical copy of this book with the intent of reading it the traditional way one reads books, however shortly after I received my copy, less than a week later my daughter was born, and since I really wanted to experience the story in some way, I got the audio book as well, and honestly, from a person that bought the book twice, I can happily say that its worth reading or listening to, as it is as beautifully read as it was beautifully written.

I'm not going to give a synopsis of the story as I feel it's a journey that you, the reader and the author Ms. Wells must go on together, however I will say that through enjoying this story, my perspective on war has changed, I feel, for the better. I couldn't necessarily articulate how I felt about it before, perhaps I had become desensitized to hearing about it as many have who have never had to deal with it outside of a TV screen or from behind a video game controller. The struggles that the Sri Lankans face throughout especially the first part of the story are surprisingly just as eye opening as the struggles they silently face when the wars seem over near the end, and you begin to think about just how much the pains of war can ripple through a family, a community, a country, and how it really doesn't end for the survivors long after the weapons are lowered.

While this book does touch significantly on the civil war between the Sri Lankan government and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam, I feel at it's heart this book is about the long road of learning to love and accept yourself, and occasionally allowing yourself to open up your heart and trust others (certainly not everyone though, oh Lord definitely not *everyone*), and in keeping true to herself, our tour guide on this trip does a wildly good job of making these points while drawing parallels from different species all throughout the animal kingdom.

Sharmila Devar does a wonderful job breathing life into a story that's already teeming with life, and through the emotion in her voice, really makes you feel like you are there, seeing what they are seeing; the good, the bad, and the beautiful.

If you're reading this, I hope you'll give this story a chance and seek the singing fish as well, as it's definitely a story worth hearing, and I look forward to more stories from Ms. Wells in the future.

Daniel has a way with words that brings you in close, takes you to these places, paints a picture of these memories, and let's you sit in them with him. It's a gift, and I look forward to listening to more of his stories.

Having been a fan of Pete Holmes' stand-up as well as The Pete Holmes Show, I'll admit when I saw he had written a book and saw the title "Comedy Sex God", I chuckled at the name and dove in completely blind.

This book, while at several points very funny, turned out to be a whole lot more than just jokes, and it surprised me in such a way that I'm having difficulty articulating just how much I enjoyed it. Beautifully written, beautifully told, and Pete, having just had my first child five months ago, a daughter as well, such a beautiful ending (Well, an ending for me, the listener, your story I expect will only be picking up speed in the coming years).

The time I spent listening to your story will go down in my memory as one of the "good episodes."

I absolutely loved the first book, the 2nd book was quite a shift from the 1st but still very good, and the 3rd...

Boy, the 3rd... where do I even begin?

It's wild how much got tied together, especially in the final chapters, stuff that was happening in the 1st and 2nd books that you didn't think much about at the time turned out to carry a lot more weight and be far more significant, the stakes were raised about as high as stakes can be, and I don't know how I was expecting it to end, but I never would have guessed the way that it did.

It was bittersweet to say the least. All things considered though I think I like how everything was ultimately wrapped up.

Also Michael Kramer does one hell of a job narrating and helping breathe life into this world.

There's a sadness that fills a person when they finish a great story and they know that their time with these characters has finally come to an end, and that's where I'm at right now. The Winners was a great story, and a nice way to bring this story, or more accurately all of these stories, to a close. I will miss getting to spend time in Beartown though.

When I finished Beartown, I knew that there was a sequel written to it and another book at the time still on the way, and I remembered thinking that Beartown stood just fine as it was and I wasn't entirely sure if it really demanded a sequel for it, and while I still think that is true, I am nonetheless still very happy that Fredrik Backman took us back so we could continue to follow the lives of these characters. His writing has a way of making you feel so many different emotions, often times all at once, and Marin Ireland as usual does an amazing job at giving these characters their voices and really bringing Beartown to life.

Fredrik Backman's Anxious People starts off as a bank robbery, then immediately shifts to a hostage drama, then quickly becomes so much more than that. Marin Ireland once again brings life to these characters. it was fantastic!!

For those of you that enjoyed watching The Queen's Gambit on Netflix and decide to give this a listen to see how the original source compares, you will find that almost scene for scene the live action version was a surprisingly faithful adaptation with very few variences from the book.

For those that have not watched the show and are just interested in hearing this story for the first time, I think you will likely enjoy it, however be warned that this is definitely a story that is dominated by the game of chess. Most of the suspense, drama and action all come from chess and chess matches and moves on the board and I'm sure to some people that could get exhausting and repetitive pretty quickly (this story could have just as easily been titled, "The Cicillian" given that was used far more than The Queen's Gambit ever was), so make sure you actually find chess interesting before diving into this or you might find yourself bored during roughly half the story.

One other note is that Amy Landon, while her narration was clear and fine enough, reads the story in a rather dreamy, breathy way and this could be a problem to some. It honestly was to me as well at first given that I listen to stories as I drive for hours at a time at night for my work and you don't want to be lulled to sleep during a story that isn't exactly a bedtime story, and when she changes to give other characters their voices it doesn't change much so the dreaminess of the narration is pretty unrelenting, but after an hour or so I got used to it and it became less of a problem for me the further I got.

There's so much I loved about this story that I don't even know where to begin, so I'm just gonna throw out some of my thoughts in no particular order.

1. Having grown up in Northern Illinois myself, I have been to many of the places that are brought up in this story.

2. Stephen King definitely has a strong understanding of the bonds we can form with animals.

3. I plan to eventually buy the book, but I will say that I am really happy that my first experience with this story was in it's audiobook.

4. Seth Numrich does an absolutely amazing job giving each character in Empis and beyond their own unique voice, and I was absolutely blown away when they played Bowditches tapes.

A lot of love went into this and it shows.

Like most of you, I have seen a number of different movies and cartoons, as well as a few stage plays of Dickens' beloved classic, but up until this point in my life I had never actually read the original source material and decided that needed to change and I was not disappointed.

It surprises me to admit this, but every adaptation I have seen has been more than faithful to the original work which makes me very happy, but with that being said, the original is still very much worth a listen. Clocking in at a bit over 3 hours, I completed it in just one sitting, and Tim Curry was absolutely brilliant, and a perfect choice to narrate this tale. If you haven't ever read it for yourself, I would definitely recommend it.
