I am a huge fan of Michael Pollan books... I think I've listened to Botany of Desire over a hundred times. This was a fun listen on little road trip that my husband and I took. The history and his chronicling of his caffeine free journey is fantastic. He always has a way of making you say: "Amazing! I didn't know that... tell me more." Unlike his full fledged books, the shortness of the piece doesn't give you more and leaves you hanging. It did spark a little bit of curiosity, which has made me do a little bit of my own research on the coffee houses of England (which was fascinating), so that's how I'll take this piece, just a springboard into my own exploration and relationship with caffeine.

I loved everything about the story. It had adventure, mystery, good triumphing over evil, love... everything you would want. Unfortunately, its narrated by one of the worst narrators I've ever heard. In this case, reading the book would be better than the audiobook.

If you could sum up A Man Called Ove in three words, what would they be?

Sarcastic, heartache, funny.

What was one of the most memorable moments of A Man Called Ove?

The chapter named: A Man Called Ove and a Bender. I was rolling with laughter.

Which character – as performed by George Newbern – was your favorite?

Ove. The narrator did a great job with all the characters, the main character was my favorite.

Any additional comments?

My brother's girlfriend started reading A Man Called Ove and she said that she "needed" someone to talk about it. I usually don't go for novels like this, but it was the perfect blend of sarcasm, humor, and heartache that I instantly fell in love with it. The narrator was fantastic and captured Ove's black-and-white, right-and-wrong nature and the humor that surrounds the situations that he is unwillingly "forced" into by his interactions with other characters perfectly. From Ove's failed suicide attempts (so not funny, but the reasons he is foiled and his reactions to the foiled attempts are hilarious), to learning about the love that him and his wife shared among tragedy, to the blossoming of a new life that he gains after meeting his new neighbors (when they destroyed his mailbox with a trailer), this book made me laugh and cry. I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this book.

I joined a book group to break myself out of my normal book groove. The only thing more riveting than the story was the flawless narrator. loved it!

If you could sum up Lilac Girls in three words, what would they be?

Exciting, engaging, satisfying.

What did you like best about this story?

The characters are very well written and the story is complicated, but beautiful and engaging. It was also narrated to perfection by the individual narrators. I'm not giving anything away, but the end is also very satisfying... I absolutely hate it when a book is ended with a bunch of loose ends.

Have you listened to any of the narrators’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I haven't listened to these narrators before, but they were perfect for their individual characters. It made it very easy to follow. The woman who narrated Kasha put so much feeling into her character... I think she was my favorite of all three.

What made the experience of listening to Into the Wilderness the most enjoyable?

Kate Reading's narration of this book was just amazing. Reading gave each of Donati's characters their own style and voice, which made it so easy to love (or hate) and connect with them. Plot twists, strong women characters, love, and danger. This story leaves you with a happy ending... but not true closure, which would normally infuriate me, but it's done in a way where you can either leave the story as is and walk away satisfied, or fall into the next book. Well, I went with the latter and I don't regret it.

Any additional comments?

I had been looking for a new series to get into after the end of the "Pink Carnation" series and I followed Kate Reading's list of books because she is an amazing narrator. I just kind of fell into this one. It is definitely worth the listen.

I got this audiobook because it won a best listen award and I figured, what did I have to lose? I was not disappointed. I am now a self-proclaimed Ghengis Kahn-aphile. It was a fantastic gym/work/commute listen. I have recommended it to pretty much anyone who will listen to me ramble on about how much of what we have accomplished and take for granted in our modern world actually originated centuries ago from the vision, actions, and genius of one (what we would call uneducated) man. I have even downloaded this audiobook to my dad's iPod, for which as far as I'm concerned, is the reason we have iPods. It's not every day you come across something that changes and enlightens your perspective of the world you live in and I thank Mr. Weatherford for compiling this compelling biography of this mysterious man. I think I may press play and listen to it again right now.

This book was a joy to listen to. Caroline Lee is a wonderful narrator and draws you into the story until you feel like you are truly a part of it. I felt my palms sweat with the intrigue and suspense, my heart break with love that is denied, and tears prickle my eyes with the unexpected light in the darkest of times. This type of book really isn't what I usually go for, but I was not disappointed with it on any level.

Isabel Allende never ceases to amaze me with her writing. This story itself is sensual, tragic, heart-warming, and absorbing. Unfortunately, the narrator is so horrible it sucks the sex and excitement right out of it. This book would be a good read, just not a good listen.

I was really looking forward to getting my ears on this book after I devoured Wicked. What a letdown this one was. The story was boring, the characters were unremarkable, and Gregory Maguire as narrator was almost unbearable. Don't miss Wicked, but pass on this one.
