The man is righteously humane, has a fat sense of humor & decency and wise since he tried/tries to listen & learn. Humble and heroic. Lord how I miss a president who works to represent the best of us.

I had the great fortune of working at the Met for an internship. To have the privilege of knowing what was described was lovely. The author’s . . . careful over enunciation of consonants was, at first, exasperating. By the end the distance created between his reading and the depth of what he relayed mirrored what it is to take in the arts/artistry/aura of the place. Interesting.

Are words able to encompass the grotesquerie of monsters who walk the earth in human form? The atrocity of this recounting in like the universe—so far outside comprehension. Grann’s clear, bare verbiage shields nothing and reveals all that was discovered.

Wish Cher narrated the whole, as her friend’s narration was like listening to someone who doesn’t know how to read out loud; very strange rhythm/cadence

I’m already a Ruth Reichl fan and a Francophile, so this was heaven! Like a mini vacation instead of being subsumed by my quotidian commute.

Your heart breaks for this incredibly talented and determined woman who tenuously holds on to selfhood and her kaleidoscope of ability. You end up being grateful she embraced the outlet of her abilities and the venue she fought to pace with her gold!

What was most intriguing about Ina Garten’s memory was the absolutely clarity of the telling, the unfolding story of this extraordinary person’s life. The generosity & humble almost nonchalant revelation of herself to us readers is awesome, in the true (old fashioned?) definition of the word. I was ready to re-listen to it again! Truly one of my favorite books.

I’ve enjoyed every Ann Patchett story I’ve read. The tales are complex like life; the verbiage is accessible, letting that world become, just become. You feel like an observer who becomes a little taken in by the characters. Lovely.

Oh! And is there ANYthing the marvelous Meryl Streep cannot do?!

Listening to Angela Davis read her autobiography was akin to listening to Shirley Horn sing: the tempo was almost inexplicably slow and deliberate, and you felt like every single particle, syllable and pause had the gravity of the universe in them. Mind bending.

I am so appreciative of the work actors/storytellers do. Ms. Davis adroitly describes what her growing up years, the work of becoming and the industry(!)
