Historia
In 2014, Theranos founder and CEO Elizabeth Holmes was widely seen as the next Steve Jobs: a brilliant Stanford dropout whose startup “unicorn” promised to revolutionize the medical industry with its breakthrough device, which performed the whole range of laboratory tests from a single drop of blood. Backed by investors such as Larry Ellison and Tim Draper, Theranos sold shares in a fundraising round that valued the company at more than $9 billion, putting Holmes’s worth at an estimated $4.5 billion.

Astounding
Revisado: 02-29-20
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It is well written and while filled with much detail it is written in a way that captures your attention quickly. The story itself is astounding. Deception occurred on many levels yet somehow it spawned a multi billion dollar company hoodwinking esteemed business people, politicians, and lawyers. This book shows the power of perception.

Amazing
Revisado: 07-20-19
Having grown up through the whole Apollo program, I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. I learned a great deal about what it was like inside the lunar module. I also learned so much about Neil Armstrong. His skills as a pilot and his knowledge as an engineer, certainly helped bring the Moon-landing to fruition. I’ve always admired those who have flown in space and this book just deepened that admiration.

Powerful
Revisado: 07-06-19
I found this book to be very powerful. I came to understand the need for healing of old wounds. I also have a new understanding and appreciation of the sacraments that Jesus left us. Every sin is a rupture of a relationship and separates us from God. Through the sacraments we can come to know him better. Any healing in our life heals those around us. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to know them selves and Jesus at a deeper level.

Historia
Autumn 1944. World War II is nearly over in Europe but is escalating in the Pacific, where American soldiers face an opponent who will go to any length to avoid defeat. The Japanese army follows the samurai code of Bushido, stipulating that surrender is a form of dishonor. Killing the Rising Sun takes listeners to the bloody tropical-island battlefields of Peleliu and Iwo Jima and to the embattled Philippines, where General Douglas MacArthur has made a triumphant return and is plotting a full-scale invasion of Japan.

Insight into Japanese Warfare
Revisado: 12-15-16
If you could sum up Killing the Rising Sun in three words, what would they be?
Interesting. Informative. Intense.
Who was your favorite character and why?
President Truman. He is an example of someone who is suddenly catapulted into a bigger role in life and not only rises to the occasion but exceeds everyone's expectations.
Which scene was your favorite?
The signing of the treaty at the end of the war.
Any additional comments?
My father-in-law who served in the Navy in the Pacific Theater during WWII would occasionally mention the atrocities committed by the Japanese in that war, but without much detail. Any reading I have done on WWII focused more on the European theater and the horrors of the holocaust. This book helped educate me about the war on the Asian front. This book also provided some insight into the thought process behind the dropping of the atom bomb. This book has piqued my interest in learning more about WWII.

Enlightening
Revisado: 11-21-16
I recently went with my small faith group to serve dinner at a Catholic worker house. We toured the facility and learned a bit about Dorothy Day and I was intrigued. I recently read My Life with the Saints by James Martin and he had devoted a chapter to her. I wanted to listen to her autobiography, but could not find it anywhere on audio. So I found this book and listened to it. I really enjoyed learning how she married her political action to her Catholic faith. I would recommend this book to anyone who would like to learn more about Dorothy Day.
