Historia
When novelist Owen Quine goes missing, his wife calls in private detective Cormoran Strike. At first, Mrs. Quine just thinks her husband has gone off by himself for a few days - as he has done before - and she wants Strike to find him and bring him home. But as Strike investigates, he discovers that Quine's disappearance is no coincidence. The novelist has just completed a manuscript featuring poisonous pen-portraits of almost everyone he knows. If the novel were published, it would ruin lives - meaning that almost everyone in his life would have motives to silence him.

Fascinating story on the twisted minds of writers
Revisado: 03-21-25
I enjoyed the uniqueness of this crime novel. The indepth look at the, sometimes twisted, minds of various writers was entertaining as a crime setting. I found the ending not as satisfying as the first novel in the series but I still enjoyed the characters and story overall. The narrator does a fantastic job with the voices of the characters.

Cal Hooper thought a fixer-upper in a bucolic Irish village would be the perfect escape. After 25 years in the Chicago police force and a bruising divorce, he just wants to build a new life in a pretty spot with a good pub where nothing much happens. But when a local kid whose brother has gone missing arm-twists him into investigating, Cal uncovers layers of darkness beneath his picturesque retreat, and starts to realize that even small towns shelter dangerous secrets.

Kept my interest
Revisado: 05-16-24
This story kept my interest. It is slightly slower than French's previous novels but I enjoyed the main character and the setting. The narrator was excellent.

Historia
After writing a satirical novel that The New York Times calls classist, Anna is shunned by the literary establishment and, in her hurt, radicalized by the philosophy of Ayn Rand. Determined to follow Rand’s theory of rational selfishness, Anna alienates herself from the scene and eventually her friends and family. Finally, in true Randian style, she abandons everyone for the boundless horizons of Los Angeles, hoping to make a TV show about her beloved muse.

Boring, Childish, Pointless
Revisado: 01-11-24
I was not a fan of the narrator, but that aside, the main character is dull and pathetic. The jokes are childish. The book tries to be ironic but the delivery falls flat. Way too many descriptions of poop, people pooping, and other bodily functions gone wrong. Too bored to finish.

Historia
On a beautiful summer day, crowds lined up outside a theater witness a sudden act of extreme road rage: a tap on a fender triggers a nearly homicidal attack. Jackson Brodie, ex-cop, ex-private detective, new millionaire, is among the bystanders. The event thrusts Jackson into the orbit of the wife of an unscrupulous real estate tycoon, a washed-up comedian, a successful crime novelist, a mysterious Russian woman, and a female police detective. Each of them hiding a secret, each looking for love or money or redemption or escape, they all play a role in driving Jackson out of retirement.

Fantastic! Entertaining, witty, and funny to the e
Revisado: 03-24-23
Entertaining, witty, and funny crime mystery from page one to the end. Atkinson masterfully weaves the suspects and characters together in almost ridiculous but humorous series of events. Loved it!
