I imagine this was written by a teenage girl suffering from unrequited love. Overly dramatic, silly metaphors, no plot. It's a teenager's exaggerated idea of love put to words in a "Greek" setting. Not even satisfying from a gay love story point of view, which was my purpose in listening,

Some of these process points I have or would have considered, many I wasn’t even aware about. But the main takeaway is that an architect - ie. a knowing and skilled project manager specializing in buildings - is essential unless your expectation is to fulfill all of their necessary functions instead yourself. To me the choice is obvious, but either way this book was a great overview, and saved me hours of googling.

I've enjoyed some audiobooks, and some narrators are truly talented, but I'm not sure it gets better than Martin Short in particular reading, performing, really, his own stories.

I'm halfway through and it's already been worth the price. So entertaining!

I listened straight through for three days of work driving. The characters are great -- the author understands a variety of personality types and writes them convincingly. The plot is good, and the story told in an interesting mix of history revealed vs. current goings on. And the writing is smart -- you are constantly turning things over in your head.

All-in-all, I loved it! The author does an excellent job of keeping you guessing right up until the very end. To me, that is a mystery successfully written.

Finally, the narrator is *a-mazing*, I don't even know how he does it. It was almost like watching a movie.

This is one of the best books I've ever read. There is so much information packed in here that I had never even heard about... my mind is blown.

I'm a (typical?) product of public education who hated science in school and managed to learn nothing about it, focusing on music and art instead. I HATED science. Well, 15 years later, I find myself an ignoramus and in more or less desperate need to learn some science. I'm one who would rather remain ignorant than sludge through some boring-ass textbook-type piece-of-crap written for god knows who, so... what could I do about this?

Bill Bryson writes for the layman! He hits on the essentials in a humored and interested way, throwing in some quick, useful analogies, and then moves along to something else. I can't believe how easy to read he made all of these facts!

Probably a big help in this book was his method of always attributing all of this discovered knowledge to the discoverers, even managing to tell us about their personalities and a bit of their interests and personal lives, too. This really helps in figuring out why some particular scientific discovery came to be, or why, for example, a scientist would discover something yet not tell anyone about it for 40 years. Why was a bunch of botany knowledge collected at once? Well, because for some reason the world became obsessed with botany discoveries, like it would today become obsessed with singing competitions. Fame and fortune for botany discoveries! ... The book is packed with this type of information to accompany the scientific discoveries themselves. I really enjoyed this aspect of the book.

If I see Bill Bryson in public I intend to give him a big hug and smile!

Rowling does a good job of keeping things moving in her figure-it-out mystery. The story is told in a back-dated kind of way, whilst simultaneously untangling the mystery through talking to various interesting characters. Now that I think about it here, it really was well done, how she did it. I listened all the way through in the car for three days.

Almost equally good was the narrator, Robert Glenister. He is the best narrator I've ever listened to, he did such an expert job of handling everything. He has a great sense of timing and a very skilled way in voicing different characters. He really seemed to understand exactly what Rowling intended, and then performed it perfectly. I can't overemphasize how well he narrated.

I had little knowledge of most of Schiff's material going in, yet he made it accessible with very little back-listening needed on my part. Sean Pratt really helped in this regard, clearly and appropriately pronouncing, giving enough "empty space" for my brain to process, for example when reading a list of subjects or terms. I got the impression Pratt already understood what he was reading, which did in turn helped me to understand.

As for Schiff, the content is completely original, to me at least, leaving loads of things to stew over. I also like the 2010 update (since 2008's first edition) after each section. This is a great book and a great ebook!
